Federal arrests in L.A. approach 2,800 since raids began, DHS says

WASHINGTON — Arrests continue to mount in the aggressive federal operation that began more than a month ago to track down and detain undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles, according to Homeland Security figures released Tuesday.

“DHS and its components’ immigration enforcement operations are ongoing in Los Angeles,” a Homeland Security official said in a statement provided to The Times. “Since operations began in June, ICE and CBP have arrested 2,792 illegal aliens in the L.A. area.”

Federal authorities said earlier that 1,618 undocumented immigrants had been detained between June 6 — the start of the DHS operation in Los Angeles — and June 22. The new total includes nearly 1,200 arrests in just over two weeks since then. President Trump deployed the National Guard and U.S. Marines in the city days after the operation began amid heated protests.

The latest figures were released a day after dozens of immigration agents and National Guard members swept through MacArthur Park, just west of downtown, forcing children from a summer camp to be rushed inside.

Gov. Gavin Newsom called it a “disgrace” and the action drew widespread condemnation from local officials. They have repeatedly criticized the federal operations for terrorizing immigrant communities, where business has slowed and many have holed up in their homes.

“The actions from the federal government over the last month do not represent the values of our city or of our country,” said City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, who represents the area. “Sending United States soldiers to intimidate children at camp and señoras at the bus stop is not making anyone safer. Raiding Home Depots is not stopping crime. Tearing families away from their children isn’t upholding family values...

Hope that extra $$$ for more CBP agents in the BBB will see that pace pick up significantly!

2,800 is a good start, but you’d have to get rid of 2 million in LA county to notice a difference. LA County has the largest illegal alien population, which is why Dems need them to stay put, for congressional seats

Exactly right. All the violence for only 2,800.

2800 while vastly better than the zero during the prior administration is not going to get the job done . Assume 500,000 illegals are in LA - guessing very conservatively. 2800 in one month (500000/2800)= 178.6 months (178.6/12) = 14.8 years Now to make matters worse the reproduction rate for latin America (using Guatemala as an example) is 22.5 births per year per 1000 people. so the first month you deport 2800, but the remaining 497,200 have (22.5*497.2/12) = 932 anchor babies. Assuming that Trump is successful in getting rid of the outrageous birthrate citizenship scam, you've really only deported about 1900 net. so it's going to take longer than 14.8 years to get rid of them all.

If OTO there are 1,500,000 of them you will never get rid of them all because they will reproduce faster than you can fly them out.

2800 in one month
/

Considering there were 60,000 to 100,000 a month coming in for 4 years

2800 in a month is not a winning number.

It’s a start, but a drop in the ocean.

I agree it’s good, but not nearly enough. Maybe the BBB provisions for more ICE agents will help increase the flow rate.

2,800?

Should be 2,800,000.

Three orders of magnitude bigger.

Get busy!!!

Arrests continue to mount crime down that’s how the scales of justice should work.

Never let a democrat near them.
