Mexico braced for Trump’s mass deportations. They haven’t happened.
The Washington Post ^ | July 6, 2025 | Mary Beth Sheridan

Trump has largely shut down the southwest border by ending asylum programs and deploying troops. But those moves have shrunk the pool of easy-to-deport migrants.

TIJUANA, Mexico — When President Donald Trump pledged to launch the “largest deportation operation in American history,” this border city swung into action. The local government declared a state of emergency. Federal authorities built a shelter for up to 2,600 deportees, complete with beds, showers and white-coated chefs. It was, one local official said, the “zombie apocalypse scenario.”

But five months after Trump took office, the shelter is nearly empty. So few deportees have arrived — an average of 38 a day — that one of the two floors has been mothballed.

The situation is similar in other Mexican border communities. While the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration arrests have sparked protests in Los Angeles and other U.S. cities, some of the migrants’ home countries have been surprised how few have been sent back.

“The reality is, up until now, there haven’t been mass deportations,” said Mónica Vega, the Baja California state official in charge of the Tijuana reception center.

The empty shelters represent a little-noticed irony in Trump’s campaign against illegal immigration. He has largely shut down the northbound flow of migrants through Mexico by ending U.S. asylum programs that had attracted hundreds of thousands of foreigners. As a further deterrent, he has sharply boosted troop levels along the border.

But those moves have dried up the pool of recently arrived, easy-to-deport migrants. For Trump to meet his goal of deporting 1 million migrants in his first year, he is turning to the more complex search for people who have lived in the United States without permission for years.

It’s hard to get precise information on how many people have been removed so far...

So let me get this straight, since Trump has largely shut down the southern border for illegal entries, it’s now a bad thing because those immigrants would have been the low hanging fruit easy for Trump to deport? And now he’s even worse because he’s going after the more complex to find bad hombres?

The deportation rate will be ACCELERATING… HOPEFULLY EXPONENTIALLY! And, if Trump keeps his promise, it will include ALL illegals since, by definition, they are all here illegally and have no respect for America and its laws.

They are ALL criminals.

‘The Washington (Communist) Post’ would also be singing the blues if there WERE mass deportations. *Rolleyes*

I think a lot of people have self-deported. AI says 300,000 have been deported since the 2025 election.

As with (Non-FReeper) Lawyers at the bottom of the ocean - it’s a start! The border has been wide open (with a few exceptional years during Trump 1.0) for DECADES.

Hey, Washington Post Bitter Losers? What number of deportations WOULD make you happy? Oh, NONE? *SNORT*

I think the Post is trying to stir up Trump’s base against him by implying he’s not keeping his promise to deport. The reality is that quite a few deportees have been sent to El Salvador or other places, and lots of others are still in detention in the US pending resolution of some court cases as well as logistics issues. The big influx (exflux?) of illegals will be self-deportations, which may or may not simply recross the border.

The bulk of Biden’s invading hordes were not even Mexican, but other Latin Americans, with a substantial number coming from Asia and Africa. As we say in IT, LIFO (Last In, First Out).

Yes, they are all criminals. Just like I would be if I decided I wanted to sneak into Mexico and steal THEIR resources.

Every sip of our water is theft in my opinion. But the theft goes much deeper. OUT!

FOCUS ON THE JIHADIS and CHINESE. Then get the cartels and the venezuelans. Give warnings to the Latinos the whole time you are rounding up/killing the jihadis and chinese to make them understand they are next. Offer $1000 to those in the meantime. Put RFID chips into those to make sure they don't come back.

Guest workers? RFIDs that id them as TEMPORARY guest workers. Have detectors at polling places.

RETROACTIVE REVOCATION OF CITIZENSHIP bak to 2001. This will save our country.

This is NOT difficult, except if we have a bunch of amateur hour clowns running things. Oh, wait...

This☝️

I'd wager most are just going back to their own towns and not bothering with these intake centers.

They are ALL criminals

The bigger criminal is the Administrations, Congresses, Judges, institutions, companies and NGOs that facilitated and/or turned a blind eye to the invasion.
