As we approach Independence Day, we should be honest about the forces that are dissolving our American nation.
Iwas rummaging through some boxes of books the other day and stumbled across an antique pamphlet I’d forgotten I own, the theme of which bears directly on our cultural and political moment, and indeed our survival as a nation. It’s about what makes an American.
Entitled I Am An American: What Every Citizen Should Know, it’s the kind of patriotic pamphlet that was common in this country prior to and during World War II. Printed in 1940, the 128-page pocket-sized booklet is not just a little treasure trove of American history, poetry, and music, it’s a manual on how to be a good American.
The top of the opening page reads, “I am an American — I am a believer in The American Creed.” What follows, written in 1917 by William Tyler Page, is about as straightforward a declaration of American identity that one could hope to find:
"I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies. "
The next pages list the rights and privileges we have as Americans — “I may think as I please. I may speak or write as I please, so long as I do not interfere with the rights of others,” and so on — and also the corresponding duties we share with our fellow citizens. Among those duties are the obligations “to obey my country’s laws … defend my country, if need should arise … to abide by the will of the majority, to stand behind my government, so my nation may be unified in time of crisis.”
The rest of the booklet includes the full text of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, a brief explanation of the Monroe Doctrine, a primer on how our government works, a primer on the flag of the United States, a list of American holidays, selected quotations and speeches from notable Americans, a brief synopsis of “America’s Glorious History,” some patriotic songs and poems, and selected anecdotes of famous Americans.

I would estimate at least 30% of citizens are not American. And they are ALL atheist and leftwing democrat. /spit
A U.S. resident with a piece of garbage paper signed by some far-left RAT bureaucrat IS NOT AN AMERICAN. AMERICANs are not made. They are born and raised that way.
“Dual-Citizens” are not Americans.
BTW: Americans are patriotic, love their flag and want AMERICA TO BE GREAT. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!! To hell with the far-left’s HAG DAY “Woman’s March”. I don’t know how they can tell if they qualify to march in it. I guess if you’re wearing one of those goofy pink vagina hats and can goose-step, you’re good to go.
I need to order a copy of this today. I have a pocket sized copy of the constitution and bill of rights I keep in a drawer for reference (and to occasionally help others gain some clarity).

How quaint. We have WEF, the unelected EU bureaucracy, NATO, the sovereign mayors of various Islamostans in UK, and the American deepstate coordinated with the new communist party.
Yeah...no kidding? /s
The entire RAT party leadership are vicious, hate-filled, anti-American communists....there’s not a real American in the whole bunch. They’re full commie all the way and are hellbent on destroying the USA as we know it.
I’d argue that those with multiple citizenships shouldn’t be Americans.
My friend lived in Germany while hubby was in Nam and daughter was born there. She has dual citizenship...but she is an American through and through.
If she’d forgo the other passports, that’d be okay.
But you can’t have multiple loyalties.
And that's the rub right there, isn't it? Because our willingness to do that is dependent upon who is elected to office.
Likewise, those immigrants allowed in wholesale by self-serving politicians without regard to normal immigration statutes...should not then be recognized as entitled to political representation in our government via census counting.
I agree that it’s well past time to end dual citizenship. If you hold citizenship in more than one country, you need to decide which of the two holds your loyalty. Even allied and friendly nations have conflicts of interest.
Government "Holidays" have gotten out of control.
Same with Awards, Medals, and ceremonies that have devolved into mere opportunities to try to hype lifestyle, irrational pseudo-accomplishments, etc.
But then, the whole political spectrum is devoid of Statesmanship, Duty, Honor, Country, for the most part, and Government employees, at all levels, decide what Taxpayers can give them.
Used in classrooms up until it was replaced by Commie Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States," which became the most used textbook in US public schools:
"What's Happened to Public School Curriculum?"
"This history textbook by Howard Zinn is a very leftwing version of U.S. history, full of multicultural, feminist, and class-war propaganda. It is based on the thesis that America is not a republic but an empire controlled by a few white men. Its heroes are anti-establishment protestors. The book debunks traditional heroes, such as Christopher Columbus and Andrew Jackson, and doesn't mention great Americans such as Thomas Edison.
Zinn's textbook deprives young readers of the opportunity to learn that they are part of the great story of American exceptionalism. His book inspires guilt and the belief that success comes only through exploitation. He belittles patriotism, never allowing pride in America. Zinn told one interviewer that his goal in writing this textbook was to start a "quiet revolution" of people taking power from within the institutions."

Also, excellent writing in the linked story at The Federalist, thank you for posting this.
Yeah, not a democracy in a republic, just a republic. Think of the pledge of allegiance.
