With more than 9,000 city workers now on strike after AFSCME District Council 33 was not able to reach a deal with Philadelphia ahead of the July 1 deadline, a number of municipal services will be impacted.
Here's a look at how city residents could see the fallout from the strike on their blocks.
Garbage collection One of the immediate impacts of the strike is on trash collection.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker explained that trash pickup at the curb will not happen effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025, during the strike.

Officers with the Philadelphia Police Department have been trained to step in at the 911 call centers.
Officials explained that wait times may be longer and if you need to call 911, do not hang up.
"We will answer those lines," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said.

I do not like Philadelphia.
I do not like Democrats.
I do not like government unions.
But I am torn, because I think one of the top issues facing this country is that ordinary working people are not paid enough. Wages have been flat since about 1970, while costs keep going up. People do need to be paid more. Of course, with government unions, that means other people need to be taxed more. So I am torn.
On the bright side, it’s hard to make Philly either smellier or dirtier.

It was inevitable that the industrial revolution would go around the world, and unfortunately, to nations that didn’t have a capitalist system. Normalizing relations with commie countries should have been a big no no.
A prime example of why “Publiç Servents” should not be allowed to unionize.
