Three former senior staff at the hospital where nurse Lucy Letby murdered seven babies and attempted to kill seven others have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
They worked on the senior leadership team at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016 and were bailed after being questioned on Monday.
The arrests came after an investigation into potential corporate manslaughter at the hospital was opened in 2023, and then widened in March this year to include gross negligence manslaughter.
Letby, 35, from Hereford, is serving 15 whole life prison sentences after targeting babies at the hospital's neonatal unit between June 2015 and June 2016.
Cheshire Police said the arrests "[did] not impact on the convictions of Lucy Letby for multiple offences of murder and attempted murder".
Det Supt Paul Hughes said the corporate manslaughter element of the investigation focused on the senior leadership of the hospital and its decision-making, "to determine whether any criminality has taken place concerning the response to the increased levels of fatalities".
He said gross negligence manslaughter was a separate offence and "focuses on the grossly negligent action or inaction of individuals".

She killed them all… They failed their patients by allowing her to go on with her murderous spree with impunity.
Every time I hear someone say that all serial killers are white men, I point them to nurses like Lucy Letby. There are probably a dozen known nurses who killed multiple babies, elderly nursing home patients and other people in hospitals or care facilities. Female nurse serial killers have kill records that dwarf many traditional male serial killers.
I’m guessing they rubber stamped their investigations. They’re required to do an inquest or something similar, I believe.
Isn’t Socialized medicine great?!?!?!?!..............

67 entries for medical serial killers on Wikipedia. The ones who were caught.
Men too, but it’s the perfect field for women who want to kill.
European countries handed down some really low sentences for the crimes.
Lucy? Oh, it can’t be sweet Lucy!
And more babies died instead of removing her from her position where she had access to the babies. Those who failed to take action are being held accountable
They had a serial killer in their midst and turned a blind eye.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, hospitals are where a lot of people die. But, if you are at all interested in keeping that under control you regularly look at all data to seek out ways to minimize it. In corporate speak, that is “continuous improvement”. When lives are at risk , this is mandatory.
I was in medicine for 32 years and one of the dirtiest little secrets I learned is that there is, at least, one “death angel” in every hospital. Everyone knows it, and most suspect who it is, but no one takes the time to investigate it, or they don’t want to. They don’t want the lawsuits- from the family OR the suspect. What they WILL do is transfer this person around until they can find an actual, other, reason to fire them.
There is nothing new about this.
I was slightly happier before I read that.
But from the Death Eater’s perspective it makes total sense.
Go where more people are expected to die, and deaths aren’t much investigated.
BTW, if someone dies while under a doctor’s care there usually isn’t a requirement of an autopsy.
