Iran’s foreign minister will head to Moscow late Sunday night to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the wake of U.S. strikes on Tehran’s nuclear facilities.
The Daily Telegraph reports Abbas Araghchi confirmed Iran “reserves all options to defend its security, its interests, its people…All options are on the table” while applauding Russia as “a friend of Iran.”
The report notes Araghchi said he will speak to Iran’s key ally on how to proceed. “We always consult with each other,” he added in a press conference in Istanbul.
The trip comes after President Donald Trump announced Saturday evening U.S. Northrop B-2 Spirit, also known as Stealth Bombers, attacked three nuclear sites in Iran and “obliterated” the targets. He called on Iran to seek peace.

If we only focus on the weapons, we’re just as foolish as the gun grabbers in the U.S. who think that the answer to “gun violence” is the gun. Ultimately, you can’t eliminate a threat without removing those who are making the threat.
I know it is popular to think in terms of regime change in Iran, but it is based in thinking that is ridiculously shallow.
Iran is 99% Shiite. The supreme leader is the head of their religion. He is their Pope. Regime change would be the equivalent of persuading all the Catholics of the world to remove their Pope. How does this get imagined?
Iran’s government is elected. There is a guardian council that is religious in nature that has the ability to screen candidates for their legislature and their presidency. It does so and that results in tens of candidates for the various seats including the presidency. They have Democratic elections. The guardian council’s screen is somewhat general in nature, insisting that candidates embrace the Shia religion.
They do not dictate policy transportation budget. They do not dictate policy on agricultural budget. They do not dictate policy on oil or gas. They don’t even dictate policy on foreign affairs. Treaties are written and agreed to by the legislature and the president. If the supreme leader opposed such a thing the entirety of the government would probably abandon it but this generally never happens because they’re all pretty much in alignment it matters of religion.
The overall point being, but if you bomb the Vatican and kill the Pope, a new one will be elected from the religious leadership and will resume the same policies. That’s what would happen with the Shia religion also.
It’s probably a good idea to remember something a little bit more concrete. I ran has 10 times the population of Israel. And 99% are Shiite. You can assassinate all you want and they’re just going to be replaced with another Shiite.
