Israel seriously set the table for the US to attempt a successful mission. The question I have is: Did we really take out a functioning nuclear site, or one that has been long deserted?

I noticed that, too.
This isn’t the first time a nuclear site’s been taken out. Even Iraq took an Iranian site out years ago, setting them back considerably and making them start over. The difference now is that these sites, especially Fordow, which is in a mountain [like in North Korea] , are/were deep down and thus difficult to eliminate, requiring something that could penetrate all that rock and such in the way.

Israel has limited capabilities.
We can dig down really deep, punch through lots of extra reinforced concrete...
I imagine we went after what Israel can’t do, take out the hardened sites that were specifically built to withstand bunker busters. But they ain’t stopping our newer bunker busters. LOL
Guys, we are capable of gutting a building in a city, literally hollowing it out with minimal damage to the surroundings.
We can drop bombs that go into a building or multi-floor bunker under ground and count the floors and then detonates where we want. We can operate with precision in adverse weather (clouds / rain), where GPS is jammed, and you have heavy IADS protecting the site.
We are not being coaxed by Israel, we are not being coerced by them either.
They just can’t do what we can do and that is a fact.
That said, we don’t want Iran with a nuke either, and if Iran doesn’t want to negotiate and continue down the path of developing a nuke, it sort of defines what comes next.
We gave them plenty of warnings.

What I’ve read and heard so far is that the information about the nuclear facilities and their construction came from a big set of engineering plans and docs describing the builds that Israeli intelligence acquired a few years ago.
You’d also think the Mossad or military intelligence would have human intelligence assets in Iran.
Send the Pearl Clutchers here over to Iran as Nuke Inspectors to verify that
the sites have been destroyed. BTW, they would be immediately taken Hostage
as soon as they landed and held as Human shields and leverage against the West.
