Saudi Arabia has executed a prominent Saudi journalist who was arrested seven years ago and convicted on terrorism and treason charges
A prominent Saudi journalist who was arrested in 2018 and convicted on terrorism and treason charges has been executed, the kingdom said. Activist groups maintain that the charges against him were trumped up.
Turki Al-Jasser, who was in his late 40s, was put to death on Saturday, according to the official Saudi Press Agency, after the death penalty was upheld by the nation’s top court.
Authorities had raided Al-Jasser's home in 2018, arresting him and seizing his computer and phones. It was not clear where his trial took place or how long it lasted.
According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, Saudi authorities maintained that Al-Jasser was behind a social media account on X, formerly Twitter, that levied corruption allegations against Saudi royals. Al-Jasser was also said to have posted several controversial tweets about militants and militant groups.
CPJ's program director Carlos Martínez de la Serna condemned the execution and said the lack of accountability in the wake of the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in 2018 allows for continued persecution of journalists in the kingdom.

“The international community’s failure to deliver justice for Jamal Khashoggi did not just betray one journalist,” he said, adding it had “emboldened de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to continue his persecution of the press.”
Al-Jasser's “execution once again demonstrates that in Saudi Arabia, the punishment for criticizing or questioning Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is death,” said Jeed Basyouni, head of the Middle East and North Africa section at Reprieve, an international anti-death penalty advocacy group.

If activates say the charges were trumped up, they weren’t.
Sometimes I have Saudi justice envy.
For those ignorant morons who took part in the no kings bullsh yesterday. This is what would happen to you if Trump were a king. Hint Saudi Arabia is referred to as “the kingdom”
If a journalist conspires in a plot to overthrow the elected leader of a country, should he be eligible for the death penalty? What about an entire journalism outlet?
Works for me! Hypothetically, of course.
I’m suprised this is even in our news.
They chop people up in that country all the time. Normal MO.
The economic value/importance a nation has to us, highly impacts how we report and politically frame that nation.
This isn’t the first time either: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-45812399
And just like that, as fast as you can snap your fingers, a nation that kills journalist, oppresses women, kills homosexuals, oppresses other religions, hacks humans apart in brod daylight, and is ruled by a king is OK. LOL
When we talk about these ideas of human rights, democracy, or even sovereignty, be very weary, we apply these concepts HIGHLY selectively.
Not that I disagree with these ideas, who would, unless you’re a despot that stays in power through fear and intimidation these are great ideas. But we use them as rallying cries for the public to get behind interventionism around the world, which is total nonsense.
They didn’t let him die of old age on death row?
How uncivilized...
Exactly.
So do I.
Odd. Executions in Saudi are usually performed on Friday, right after midday prayer.
Authorities had raided Al-Jasser's home in 2018, arresting him and seizing his computer and phones. It was not clear where his trial took place or how long it lasted.
The Saudi judicial system is closed; no press or public viewership allowed.
I can think of some “journalists” who should lose their minds.
Speaking of the Washington Post :
....al-Houthi traveling in a vehicle with very young male soldiers (the Houthi rebels draft child soldiers) while stationed at a mounted machine gun.
al-Houthi is the head of the Houthis’ Supreme Revolutionary Committee. He is described as “one of the most powerful men” in the Iran-backed rebel group.
On November 9, the radical extremist leader was given valuable space in the Washington Post’s Global Opinions section, edited by Karen Attiah, a passionate advocate for the controversial slain Saudi activist Jamal Khashoggi, who in his last days worked as a de facto asset to the Qatari and Turkish regimes.

Video surfaces of WaPo op-ed contributor chanting ‘Death to America’

Less than two months after he was given prominent op-ed space in the Washington Post, a video has surfaced of Houthi rebel leader Mohammad Ali al-Houthi launching a shoulder-fired missile and then reciting the Houthi slogan, which calls for “Death to America.”
The Washington Post contributor chants, “Allah is the greatest. Death to America. Death to Israel. Curse the Jews. Victory to Islam.” He has also taken to his unverified but media– and think tank-cited Twitter account to repeat the infamous Houthi slogan.
Ali Shihabi, the founder of the Arabia Foundation, a Washington D.C.-based Middle East think tank, confirmed to Conservative Review that it is indeed al-Houthi in the video. Shihabi tells CR that it is “documentary evidence of the type of leader” that the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen is up against, whom “many critics have ignored.”
Other videos have surfaced showing Mr. al-Houthi traveling in a vehicle with very young male soldiers (the Houthi rebels draft child soldiers) while stationed at a mounted machine gun....
They should have a No Kings protest in Saudi Arabia. Wonder how that would go.
Also for all you trans gay lesbian LGBTQ+2 LMNOP cross dressing and binary non binary partridge in a pear tree individuals demonstrating for Hamas they will kill you just for that
👍
Trump hasn’t even arrested a single journalist.
Worst dictator, ever!
Well he did make a bunch of them look stupid (eg inflation predictions, etc), and JD Vance showed Margaret Brennen for the lying sack of s*** that she is. Maybe that counts.
I though Hitchcock knew how to build suspense.
