Israel has asked the Trump administration over the past 48 hours to join the war with Iran in order to eliminate its nuclear program, according to two Israeli officials.
The big picture: Israel lacks the bunker buster bombs and large bomber aircraft needed to destroy Iran's Fordow uranium enrichment site, which is built into a mountain and deep underground. The U.S. has both within flying distance of Iran. But the Trump administration has so far distanced itself from Israel's operation, and argued that it would be illegitimate for Iran to retaliate by striking U.S. targets. Directly attacking Iran, even if the U.S. involvement is limited to bombing a single site, would pull the U.S. directly into the war. However, if Fordow remains operational after the operation ends, Israel will have failed in its goal to "eliminate" Iran's nuclear program.

The bigger picture. They started a war knowing they need our gear and planned that they can buffalo us into joining their war. This is like when CIA thought they could force JFK into sending in US forces at Bay of Pigs by cornering him when he had already told them he wouldn’t.

Well, this is from Axios, after all - but it would come as a surprise to learn that Israel would have started the operation without the means to complete it.
Lindsey Graham can go dig up John McCain's carcass and attack the Fordow site himself if he thinks it's that important.

Iran hit Israel again tonight. Haifa got it and it appears a refinery got hit.
Again, time will tell of the damages.
Even if the story is 100% fake news, the scenario is eminently plausible.
Some are saying that destroying the deepest Iranian nuclear weapon fabrication sites will require five consecutive direct hits by the most devastating bunker-busting munitions in the Israeli arsenal, whereas the U.S. possesses more powerful bunker-busters that the Israelis would love to have right now, but simply don’t.
This is kind of laughable. Israel would not start a conflict they couldn’t finish - guaranteed. Plus, if they needed bunker busters etc. they and get them. The technology is not that advanced, AND the US would likely get them to Israel without being traceable if they were needed.
Iran is a third world country under the mullahs. Their regime will not survive this. They are done.
