A decapitation strike, in theory, bypasses conventional battles to take out the leadership of a regime. It’s the sort of thing that the United States explores in theory, but is careful about in practice.
And that’s reason #412 why we never win wars anymore.
On paper, decapitation strikes, depending on how they’re implemented may violate international law. And so rather than take out Saddam, we spend years and countless lives to usher in democracy. You’re not supposed to target officers. Too bad the other side doesn’t play by those rules or care about them.

Thinking of “decapitation.” I read an excellent book years ago about how the US tracked down and whacked Admiral Yamamoto for payback for Pearl Harbor. Fascinating and it took only 14 months or so. Compared to how long it took to get bin Laden.
Too bad the Israelis could not waste/decapitate the top Mullahs who run Iran like their own personal piggy bank. Same as other third world regimes do. These Mullah scum live with extended families in luxurious compounds. Via loot skimmed from Iran’s oil/gas sectors.
So to kill one top Mullah/Ayatollah means 30 family members also die.
I may have missed this in the 20 years or so that I gave briefings on the law of armed conflict, but I don’t recall any prohibition on targeting officers. It’s the most effective way to create confusion in the ranks.

I think that heads of state are out, but I have no idea how far down the ranks that protection goes.
Between the Ukrainians and the muslims, not much is out of bounds any more.

And if any country chooses to ignore them, there is nothing they can do about it unless they are willing to go to war.
It actually was warranted and saves lives, as would have dealing with Germany by stopping it earlier.
Any nuke armed, ballistic missile, war mongering country, and aligned with other countries aiming the same at the US, is an enemy to the US. Israel. Iran should never have gotten this far.
Iran was bidding time - which you seem to allow - to develop nukes and long range ballistic miss US kicked the can down the road for years; Israel attacked can.

the fact is that to be this effective Israel has to have inside information. Many Persians would be happy to be the eyes and ears of Israel to help destroy the hated regime in Iran.

There is another plan for the Mullahs. That’s where the revolution that Obama stopped is going to come in. With the decapaccino, the Iranian military won’t be effective for months if not longer. My prediction is within a month the people of Iran will rise up and take the Mullahs down. The Shah’s grandson is going to be the next president and by year end Israel will once again be friends with Iran, just like they were pre-1979.
