A fame-seeking teenager died attempting an alarming social-media challenge called “dusting,” according to her heartbroken parents.
Renna O’Rourke, 19, of Arizona, passed away Sunday after trying the viral trend, also called “chroming,” in which netizens film themselves inhaling keyboard cleaning spray to get high for views online.
“She always said, ‘I’m gonna be famous, Dad. Just you watch. I’m gonna be famous,’ and unfortunately, this is not under the most optimal of circumstances,” her grieving father, Aaron O’Rourke, told AZ Family.
The Tempe teen went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital.
She remained unconscious in the intensive care unit for a week before she was declared brain-dead.
Her cause of death was sudden-sniffing-death syndrome, or inhalant abuse.
“Failure of the liver, heart failure, disease of the lungs,” Weisman said of the resulting dangers.
Renna’s parents said they are sharing their tragic story to raise awareness about the fatal trend.
“There’s no ID required” to buy the cleaner, Dana O’Rourke said. “[The spray] is odorless.
“[The method of getting high] is everything kids look for. They can afford it, they can get it, and it doesn’t show in Mom and Dad’s drug test.

My takeaway is that I need to teach my daughter to not do stupid things, but will probably ban Tik Tok from her phone and computer.
A lot of people want to be famous.
A lot of people want to be the star of the show.
A lot of people want to be the center of the universe.
Big cultural problem. A little humility within the general population would go a long way. Then you’d have fewer people doing stupid stuff for no good reason.
It can't be overstated.
Fame. What you get is no tomorrow.
Next viral trend, nails in the head. They’re cheap, don’t require an ID and only takes a hammer. Live stream to show how many you can drive into your skull before you pass out. Go for the record, become a Pinhead to your followers
Social Media and people’s thirst for fame and narcissism has wrecked this society. It’s an absolute wasteland of intelligence purging.
Just heard that on the radio a few days ago
The lives of those parents have been permanently and tragically altered.
My sympathies for the girl’s family. Teenagers are expected to do goofy things as they learn about life, but sometimes they make dangerous mistakes.
I recall hearing about “huffing” back in the:70’s. Inhaling Right Guard Deodorant or various chemical fumes, just for a buzz. I also recall my parents showing me articles in the paper about young people who either died from it or became severely, and permanently brain damaged and needed a Nurse just to wipe the sweat from their brow.
My Dad rhetorically asked me “Is that what you want?”.
I was respectful enough not to be sarcastic, so of course I said “No!”.
I had no idea you could get high on that.
Every one wants their 15 minutes of fame.
Get rid of screens if you have kids under 17.
....very sad....as one of my former co-workers used to say, there is no cure for stupid.....
Stupid is as stupid does....
If Miles Davis was still around he might release a new album called “Death Of The Cool”.
What does it matter if she would have need ID for the cleaner, she would have found a way to get it if she really wanted it. The problem isn’t the cleaner, blaming it is as ridiculous as blaming the gun a criminal uses. The problem is this girl valued her own life so little that she risked and lost it for some need for fleeting internet fame. What a loss.
America used to be a land of daredevils, now we seem to be raising generations of idiots that are so unhappy with their lives they are willing to throw them away for fleeting internet fame.
“Woman” aged 19. Adult.
“True pandemic” reinforcing Darwinism.
Sad but true.
At least she didn’t join some cult, pick up a weapon - firearm, vehicle or otherwise - and take out anyone else with her, and hopefully some lesson from this prevents other stupid people from making the same mistake.
But we all know that somewhere out there there’s someone/some people who want to use it against us to empower almighty government.
Let me know what the buzz is like
Well, you're famous now sweetie. That fame will evaporate in a day or two and you will still be dead.
