Biden only hand-signed one pardon during final spree, and it was his most controversial one

Former President Joe Biden only signed one pardon by hand during his final weeks in office, and it was his most controversial one.

The Justice Department is reviewing the list of people granted pardons by Biden amid new concerns about his use of an autopen to automatically sign documents and concerns about his state of mind and mental acuity in his final months in office.

Biden used his final weeks as commander in chief to grant clemency and pardon more than 1,500 people in what his White House described as the largest single-day act of clemency by a U.S. president.

Biden appears to have signed those final pardons, including preemptive pardons for members of his family, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley and members and staff of the House committee investigating Jan. 6.

But the former president signed one by hand for his son. Biden pardoned his son Hunter in December 2024 after vowing to the American people for months he would not do so.

Hunter Biden was found guilty of three felony gun offenses during special counsel David Weiss’ investigation. The first son was also charged with federal tax crimes over his alleged failure to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes.

Before his trial, Hunter Biden entered a surprise guilty plea.

Former President Biden in December 2024 announced a blanket pardon that applies to any offenses against the U.S. that Hunter Biden “has committed or may have committed” from Jan. 1, 2014, to Dec. 1, 2024.

“From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,” the former president said.

Legal basis of Preemptive Pardoo is shaky at best, charge Hunter and let courts sort it out.

The Signature of the President is not required for a Pardon. He announced them on live TV. That's it....done...

The "certificates" are for the Public Record...nothing more.

The only people who think Biden's telling the truth are is butt boys in the press - the same people who told us Biden as sharp as a tack...

Agreed. The same with the entire autopen scandal. It's a non-winnable issue and not worth fighting.

Focus on the more substantial corruption like the bribery from foreign countries.

The first son was also charged with federal tax crimes over his alleged failure to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes

so why isnt a state prosecuting him?

You are being imprecise—apparently intentionally.

Biden did not announce every single pardon on TV with a list that demonstrated he knew exactly who was pardoned.

It is time to dig into the facts—and not just pretend we know what happened here.

NOT SURE THAT IS CORRECT.

FOR SOMETHING THAT IMPORTANT-—SIGNATURES SHOULD BE REQUIRED.

And the Democrats want to argue about Trump’s pardons?

I’ll grant that a person is President upon getting sworn in (despite cheating, being born in Kenya, etc.), but all else requires contract signing. If we went by what comes out of Biden’s mouth we would be curing “oil cancer” by now.

Yup—a Biden announcement that “I just pardoned a bunch of folks” has zero evidentiary value on each individual case unless they were specifically named.

It is believing in magic to think otherwise.

I took your advice and ‘looked it up’ and saw nothing about how a pardon can be issued by ‘announcing it on TV’. How did that work before radio and TV? What other official acts can the President take without signing something? Could you please cite your sources?

Pardons are NOT contracts. It's an Announcement or declaration.

They were done in the Newspapers very early on.

President Washington pardoned 16 people.

Might you know on which TV channel he announced those?

“I just pardoned a bunch of people” without naming them is a total joke.

That is what I call a magic trick.

But he did name them. How do you think they got pardoned?

Pardons are one thing, but nominations to SCOTUS is another. Was an autopen used for Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson? If so, perhaps the wise candidate that is now serving for her lifetime, and didn’t know how to define woman, should be removed. She assumed office in June, 2022. I know the law in oklahoma is that for an autopen to be legal, it had to be used in the presence of the owner and at his/her direction.

The constitution says that the president can pardon. There’s not requirement as to the method of how. Just as long as it’s made known. Obviously pre-TV days he couldn’t announce it on TV. Nowadays, there’s nothing stopping him from doing it that way.
