As America seeks to dial back its military presence in Europe and war continues in Ukraine, European nations are dusting off their war machines and training for battle. By all indications, no matter what happens between Russia and Ukraine, tensions on the historically war-fraught Continent will almost certainly not return to pre-2022 levels.
On Wednesday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a new, chummier military partnership between his nation and Ukraine. He said Germany will continue to provide military support, and promised to dole out 5 billion euros in military aid. Merz also said the Germans will supply Ukraine with long-range weapons that can strike inside Russia. “This is the start of a new form of military-industrial cooperation between our two countries and one that has huge potential,” the chancellor said. “There will be no range restrictions, allowing Ukraine to fully defend itself, even against military targets outside its own territory.”
Later, during an appearance on German TV, Merz addressed a question pertaining to Taurus air-launched cruise missiles. He told channel ZDF it is “within the realms of possibility” that Germany will give Ukraine these long-range, German-made missiles. Taurus missiles — the name is an acronym for Target Adaptive Unitary and dispenser Robotic Ubiquity System — are harder to detect and possess a range of up to 315 miles. In Ukrainian hands, they easily pose a threat to Moscow. Neither the British Storm Shadow nor the French cruise missiles Ukraine has received can travel beyond 150 miles.
The Ukrainians would need training to operate these missiles, which would further involve Germany in the conflict, whose citizens have in the past made clear they’d rather not send these weapons to Ukraine. Not our problem. And not another dollar to that twerp Z.
The US needs to extract ourselves from this European mess.
It’s hard to see why we should be paying for the defense of people who don’t respect us, look down on us and think they’re better than us.
Sure, they will say “Oh, no, we love America!”
No they don’t.
While I don’t believe that Russia could handle Europe, I also don’t believe Europe could handle Russia.
1. Russia is having a rough time simply handling Ukraine.
2. Europe has far too many who would take advantage and bring Europe down if their militaries are off fighting a war.
Oh, no!
Better to let Ukraine get taken over by Russia, than risk a wider war.
Putin will stop after he gets Ukraine. Promise.
Time to leave NATO
If there ever was a war to stay out of...
Trump must walk away from this war.
In 2019, they loosed a man-made plague upon the world.
This time, it'll be a world war and a plague.
Well, look at you!
Standing on the sideliness in your little cheerleader uniform and pom-poms rooting for WWIII.
How cute!
So long as we stay out of it, I don’t care what they do.
You have no idea how many times i was told over in the UK that, “We dont want you, we want your money.”
More times than i care to remember.
Got so sick of it that one time in a pub in London i told one of them loud enough for the whole pub to hear. “Ya, and we wont lift a GD finger to help you bastards next time you get yourselves into a fix.” “You can go +@#$ yourselves.”
