The last living grandson of the 10th U.S. President John Tyler has died at 96 years old — the end of a link to a bygone era of American history.
After his presidency, Tyler joined the Confederate Congress in 1861. When he died in 1862, at his funeral, the coffin of the tenth president of the United States was draped with a Confederate flag, still the only president not buried under the American flag
He deserves a tip of the canoe
The oldest living grandchild of a president is now James Roosevelt III, grandchild of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He will be 80 in November. Lives near Boston.
Well played sir, well played.
Also a descendent of Pocahontas
WOW pinging godsgravesglyphs - kind of related?
RIP! A bygone era has passed.
So, he's related to Elizabeth Warren?
🦉👀🤣
distantly
Rimshot!
Tyler was an "add on", a VEEP running mate of Harrison, who was the general who led an Army force in the battle of TIPPECANOE, the name of a river, in 1811, against a mixed tribe Indian army, led by Tencumseh and his brother, Tenskwatawa.
Harrison was a war hero and the first president to die in office, thus Tyler was the first VEEP to become president through a president's death in office.
Iirc— Berkeley Plantation in Charles City VA was the heritage home of the Tylers, where for quite a while this gentleman lived. He founded and ran a med/large chemical company and was very active in supporting archaeology of the Civil War fort on the land on the river edge and many other heritage/history foundations. Olde Virginia, and Revolutionary War era Virginia in the geneaology- which you have explained well.
Imagine having a grandfather born in 1790, 7 years after the official treaty ending the Revolutionary war. A grandfather who remarried and sired children late in his long life, making all this possible.
Also- a stray memory-iirc, the Union Army encamped with a field hospital at Berkeley Plantation, and Brigadier General Dan Butterfield (Union) commanding at the Plantation/Harrison’s Landing... composed “Butterfields Lullaby” which was first played over the burial grave of “an excellent man” Union soldier, instead of a volley of rifle fire. The song— known today as “Taps” was taken up by the Union Army throughout, and today we know it at many memorial military events and burials.
How ironic then, that at 96 Harrison Tyler passes away on Memorial Day Weekend. RIP Harrison, and your family lives on.
Blessings.
I have long followed this family because John Tyler is the only President with whom I share a birthday (March 29). It is absolutely amazing that a man born in the 18th century had a grandchild (actually 2, the guy who died had a brother who only died a few years ago) survive until the 21st century. And it wasn’t like there was a 1799 birth and a grandchild dying in 2001, there was plenty of time to spare on both sides. I don’t think that I have ever heard of such a long combined duration of 3 generations in any family.
Wonder what Mr Tyler’s diet consisted of..
The former President lived clean and ate well, with great genetics... imho he was a long lived married late in life... stud. For the sake of our country we could use a million Tylers doing the same. The body politic would not now be composed of such human rejects and Leftist tripe BS.
Not supremacist— but encouraging the best the human genome could produce within a truly free country, for as long as it can last.
Genesis seems to mention a few!
