The Trump administration on Thursday halted Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students, a major escalation in the administration’s efforts to pressure the college to fall in line with the president’s agenda.

The administration notified Harvard about the decision after a back-and-forth in recent days over the legality of a sprawling records request as part of the Department of Homeland Security’s investigation, according to three people with knowledge of the negotiations.

“I am writing to inform you that effective immediately, Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification is revoked,” according to a letter sent to the university by Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary. A copy of the letter was obtained by The New York Times.

Applying for a student Visa should be a difficult process, with a fee to pay for all the expenses to perform the background checks. It should be clear that the student is required to check in regularly, maintain a 3.0 GPA, be required to show proof of transportation upon graduation, and will be expelled for failing to report in, failing to maintain their GPA, and any civil/criminal infractions that they may receive, including loss of their driving license due to serious traffic infractions.

That’s just for starters.

University admissions AND budget offices get giddy when they see an increase in foreign enrollment. They, or some organization on their behalf, pay full freight. Anytime, a school gets in a budget crisis or regular enrollment decreases, their International Studies Department gets busy looking for foreign students to enroll. I’ve watched it happen.

Those students are then babied and given special treatment for the entirety of their time at the institution. It matters not if they can’t speak English or even produce the coherent readable final paper that’s a requirement for graduation, they are going to graduate with at least a B average.
