Mace files resolution to expel McIver over ICE assault charges

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) filed a Wednesday resolution to expel Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) over pending federal charges related to a scuffle involving lawmakers, protesters and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers outside a migrant detention facility in New Jersey.

McIver was accused of assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement after touring Delaney Hall on May 9 to conduct legal oversight.

She has said she did nothing wrong while accusing ICE officers of pushing her. Democrats have defended McIver while accusing the Trump administration of a political prosecution, while Mace joined other Republicans who have widely criticized her actions.

Assaulting a government employee while they're doing their job is certainly grounds for termination, especially assaulting someone while aiding and abetting invaders.

The restraining order would apply to all government employees, not solely the individual victim, nor only ICE employees, and would preclude her from entering any government building.

Unless she’s convicted, I don’t think that will happen, although we all saw what she did. She thought she could just start shoving people around and not have to be held accountable. Where I grew up, in Northern Illinois, a lot of the black people liked to throw their weight around and bully people. I haven’t seen that in Oklahoma, where I live now. (I also knew a lot of black people back home who were just regular folks and not bullies).
