Some people can't be taught.
That brings us to Downieville, a Gold Rush village up in the Sierras where an elderly woman living alone was mauled by a bear who broke into her house and killed her.
...
a sheriff’s deputy found Miller’s lifeless body in her kitchen. Her right leg and left arm had been partially gnawed off. On the floor around her were the large paw prints of a bear.
...
autopsy determined that Miller had likely been killed by the animal after it broke into her home... fatal bear attack on a human.
...
people who live in the Sierras -- on the southern side, not the northern half which is where this story took place. They are on guard against bears all the time, they cannot store food outside closely fitted metal containers, they often have to keep that food on the second story of the house (which they say is nearly useless as the bears can smell everything), and they must wear bear spray and air horns at all times when they go out. Guns for many are a matter of survival.
The bears are out of control in the boondocks of California and environmental wackos, making bad laws and sentimental cases for bear conservation are getting it wrong all the time. The only people who should have any sayso in how the region deals with bears are the people who live there. That the bears have multiplied obviously speaks to bad environmental policies and management, too, probably related to the state's failures to clear its brush for greenie reasons, which has triggered humongous wildfires.
Any questions as to why this region, particularly in the north, wants to secede along with western Oregon and join greater Idaho?

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Until bears get a BETTER ATTITUDE I, for one, will support the elimination of as many as possible. If they refuse to play by the rules, well, tough crap.
Sorry she died.
But the bears were living there first. She didn’t know that? Could have prepared for such an event. Isn’t there bear spray? Neither bear or human should be killed.
Once they attack a human odds are much higher they will repeat the behavior. Kind of like repeat offender criminals. At that point we have to kill them for the safety of humans. Wish the criminal justice system was as sensible in recognizing this pattern.
Mossberg 500 tactical shotgun. 😏
“....people who live in the Sierras...”

It should read people who live “in the Sierra.”
The plural of Sierra is Sierra.
How did he break into the house? Do they have crowbars?

Technologies in situational awareness and lethality at a distance will enable the residents to control or destroy dangerous bears.
Maybe he discovered the key under the mat.
You are correct. But it all started with John Muir who wrote “the Sierras.”
Of course, you have the Rockies, the Appalachians, the Cascades, the Brooks, the Wind Rivers, the Adirondacks, the Olympics, etc.
He just wanted a pic a nic basket
Candygram. Works every time.
Bear prints, dead woman, arm and leg chewed.
And the reporter is still not sure it’s a bear did it.

“a sheriff’s deputy found Miller’s lifeless body in her kitchen. Her right leg and left arm had been partially gnawed off. On the floor around her were the large paw prints of a bear”.
So what do they think DID kill her? Slip and fall while dancing WITH a bear? (Gnaw marks later made up by anti bear type deputy).
The funny thing is “Sierra” is a Spanish word meaning both “Mountain” and “saw.” It is singular in Spanish.
