A massive Mexican navy tall ship making a festive visit to New York slammed into the Brooklyn Bridge late Saturday — toppling one of its huge masts into the deck in a horrifying scene that left multiple crew members seriously injured, according to fire officials and sources.
A search and rescue operation was underway to pull people out of the water after one of the towering 147-foot masts on the Cuauhtémoc — which has a crew of 277 — collided with the bridge’s road deck just before 9 p.m.,

Looks like a restored sail ship for tourists.
what did the captain not know the clearance of the bridge or the height of his masts?
Beautiful ship. Her captain’s career may have just took a turn for the worse.
It’s not immediately obvious, from the video, why people went overboard. The ship remained upright through the entire collision and there were no people going overboard that I could see in the video.
How TF was THAT allowed to happen?
Search and rescue for what?
I saw the video. It didn’t look like anyone jumped in the water.
Moron skipper went under the bridge but it’s mast was too tall and got crunched. That’s all.
Spectacular scene as Mexican tall ship docks in NYC, giving sneak peek of blockbuster Sail4th celebration of America’s 250th
Fortunately the Brooklyn Bridge was made to last.
>>what did the captain not know the clearance of the bridge or the height of his masts?
Possibly messed up the conversion between meters and feet....
Like the videos of the trucks that DO NOT read the “CLEARANCE HEIGHT” signs on highways & shear the top off their trucks??
Ship was floating stern first…did it break from it’s moorings and the tug was chasing it?
Should have brought their low rider ship.
"¡Ay, caramba!"
Was it under tow? It was going backwards. Trump Admin to be blaimed in 3..2..1.
Dang, I just bought that bridge from a very nice man in a trench coat yesterday. Paid a lot of money...but thought it was worth it.

Apparently there are people up on the masts falling into the river.
I saw another angle that was closer and there were people high up in the rigging. It looked like a couple of them fell into the water.
