UnitedHealth under criminal probe for possible Medicare fraud

The U.S. Department of Justice is carrying out a criminal investigation into UnitedHealth Group (UNH.N), opens new tab for possible Medicare fraud, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

UnitedHealth said it had not been notified by the DOJ about the "supposed criminal investigation reported," and the company stood by "the integrity of our Medicare Advantage program." The stock fell 8% in after-hours trade following the report.

The health insurer has been under pressure for months. On Tuesday, UnitedHealth Group's CEO, Andrew Witty, stepped down unexpectedly, and the company simultaneously suspended its 2025 financial forecast due to rising medical costs. The announcement sent shares plunging nearly 18% to a four-year low.

Stephen Hemsley, who led the company for more than a decade until 2017, is taking back the reins following setbacks including the December murder of Brian Thompson, the CEO of its insurance unit, which catapulted UnitedHealth into the public consciousness.

BOTH United Health, and Luigi Mangioni, are products and consequences of Obamacare, state-controlled, leftist, crony health-care system.

As a business owner who has a self funded healthcare program I am shocked at how these insurance companies deal with paying Medicare bills, and how doctors offices use multiple codes and test in order to get paid. It’s definitely a racket.
I have an individual in my office who had to have a heart ablation surgery. He said that Medicare paid portion of about $180,000 retail treatment a total of about $15,000.
We had a lady in our office who had to use our program for the same type of treatment plan and we were charged over $100,000.
The medical insurance treatment system is horrible if you’re employer. The insurance carriers even on self funded programs get screwed in ultimately with the consumer pay for it
There is no doubt that the health insurance industry is corrupt. There’s no doubt that the drug companies use these PBA companies are screwing the public also.

“”Say, aren’t they the ones touted by aarp?””

THAT’s why I’ve never signed on with them for Medicare Advantage in spite of family recommending them..

“”Medicare Advantage is a house of cards.””

Don’t know what that means but it’s worked well for my husband and me for over 20 years and several hospitalizations for him.

My wife and I joined Medicare advantage 9 years ago. All her cancer treatments billed at around $35,000/month were covered by Medicare advantage for 5 years and 6 months. Our out of pocket averaged $3500/year. Plus we got so many freebies not available through Medicare.

For every bill that’s up to be passed in D.C. needs to go to a Loophole Department first.

It’s out of hand and the tax payer is being bleed to death.

UHC and AARP are truly one and the same much as AARP protests that identity.
