Traffic charges dropped against Georgia college student now facing deportation

Charges have been dropped against a 19-year-old college student who was arrested during a traffic stop in Dalton earlier this month—a case that has drawn national attention and sparked outrage among immigration advocates and members of the community.

The City of Dalton confirmed Monday that all charges against 19-year-old Ximena Arias-Cristobal were dismissed after a review of police dash-cam video showed she was not the driver who committed the traffic violation that led to her arrest on May 5. Arias-Cristobal had been cited for making an improper turn and driving without a valid license. However, Dalton police now say she was mistakenly identified. "Miss Arias-Cristobal's vehicle was very similar in appearance to the offender vehicle," Dalton Police Assistant Chief Chris Crossen said.

According to the city, video from the incident revealed that a black pickup truck made an illegal right turn at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Thornton Avenue, where right turns on red are prohibited.

Arias-Cristobal, a student at Dalton State College, was driving a dark gray pickup truck that happened to be part of a line of cars turning left at the same time the officer attempted to pursue the actual offending vehicle.

When the officer caught up with her near Crawford Street, he stopped her vehicle and made contact. Audio of the initial interaction was not recorded. "It's a situation where the wrong vehicle was stopped, and it's a very regrettable thing that this is where this led," Chief Crossen said.

The Dalton Police Department, the prosecuting attorney, and city officials reviewed the video and determined Arias-Cristobal’s vehicle was not the one that committed the traffic violation. She was cleared of both the improper turn and license charges, and the City Attorney notified her legal representatives of the decision to drop the case.

By all accounts it appears this 19 year old college girl is a fine you woman and she should make a a fine young citizen -living back in Mexico!

I also find it interesting that her mother (speaking Spanish to her daughter), hasn't learned to speak English (or chose not to during the arrest of her daughter). My question is this: if her parents have been in our country for the last 15 years (the arrested daughter was four years old when they came here), it doesn't sound like her mother has done very much "assimilating" into the U.S.

All I can say to this family is "Adios Chicas"!

“She was cleared of both the improper turn and license charges”

WTH??? I can see the improper turn charge being dropped, but the fact she didn’t have a license is a solid charge against her. She either had a valid license or she didn’t. Other reports said she had an International Driving Permit, but not a valid state license.

She is innocent and should be rewarded by repatriation to her home country.

The police determined she was not the one driving the vehicle. However, they did discover she’s in the country illegally and turned her over to ICE.

federal authorities learned Arias-Cristobal is in the U.S. illegally

This is all we need to know. Either we have law or we do not. If law is not enforced, then there is no law.

Deport her and allow her to return when she goes through proper channels.

It's interesting that the open borders hypocrites (libertarians, soros, RATs, commies) protest the South African refugees solace, but want the third world's criminals free access.

Don't you find that interesting?

> I also find it interesting that her mother (speaking Spanish to her daughter), hasn’t learned to speak English … <

And that’s because we make it easy for them not to learn English. My grandparents migrated legally from eastern Europe. For them to navigate successfully in their new country, they had to learn English. So they did.

Now everything is in both English and Spanish. So why bother to learn English?

At least Trump understands the problem, and is trying to fix it.

Side story: I get a small state teachers pension. And one of the accessible languages for the annual report is in Chinese. Who the hell could teach in America for decades, and still understand only Chinese?

It’s woke craziness. And deliberate Balkanization of the country.

Fruit of a poisoned tree. The stop was illegal, so no evidence it uncovered can be used. Dashcam video shows the cop drove right past the truck that made the illegal u-turn, a black Ford with black rims and a toolbox in the back, and stopped the truck she was driving, a dark gray Dodge with silver rims and no toolbox.

The excerpt states that the vehicle she was driving was very similar to the one that made the improper turn. It didn’t say she wasn’t driving.

She still violated the law. Driving without a valid license is a crime in our country. If she’s an illegal alien RAT voter, that probably explains why she broke the law by not having a license. Deport her illegal voter butt.

I’m no lawyer, but I’d assume that was because the officer had no probable cause to stop her it tainting the case. “Fruit of a poisoned tree” is the expression, I believe.

After suffering for more than a week in Police and ICE custody, it turns out it is all based on a police mistake.

The police mistake had nothing to do with her being here illegally, which is the main mistake.

So let her go home and pack for ICE to later return and send her back to Mexico. Don’t they have schools there? We probably wouldn’t have to pay for her degree if she went to school in Mexico.

We've been living in an upside down, Alice in Wonderland world for the last several decades when it comes to immigration.

The publicity from this is giving them a problem.

So they fabricated an excuse.

Dalton used to be a normal GA town. For over two hundred years people in my family have lived in the area around there. We were the first settlers. Then about 35 years ago the carpet manufacturers started hiring illegals. Dalton is a center of carpet manufacturers.

Now it’s a majority “hispanic” town at 55%. White people - the Americans - are just 35%. Had been almost 100% for centuries. Black people are only 3.5%. That number is likely a residue of segregation, but the mill “owners” don’t seem to have a problem hiring non-Whites.

So Dalton is now a Mexican colony, with a liberal sprinkling of other hispanics from the Caribbean. White people are terrified of saying anything lest they be accused of racism.

That’s what’s going on here. The cops and judicial system are in full retreat lest the FedGov and the mills come down on them. Not sure that Harmeet Dhillon’s Civil Rights division would go after anyone there for simply doing the right thing but people there are now trained to react this way. Anything that smells of Racism!! is to be treated like the plague.

Note that I put “owners” in quotes. They only own that land and those mills because Americans - their fellow citizens - recognize that right. If they have transferred their loyalty to the Mexican nation then those mills are forfeit. They may have money power like the old slave power, but people in the hollers around them and the other small towns in North GA can organize to relieve them of their dirt. And should. Ownership by Whites was not guaranteed in that area until Andrew Jackson marched the Cherokee to Oklahoma. Maybe the mills should be seized and deeded back to the Cherokee nation, and staffed by them. Maybe that would be racial Justice.

“The stop was illegal”

Which is why the city dropped all charges. However ICE detaining her on totally unrelated charges seems fine by me
