European leaders stepped up pressure on Russia to accept an unconditional cease-fire in Ukraine, threatening to immediately impose a new round of punishing sanctions if the Kremlin did not change its stance by the end of Monday.
“The clock is ticking — we still have 12 hours until the end of this day,” the German government spokesman, Stefan Kornelius, told a news conference.
On Monday, the Kremlin spokesman brushed off the threat. “The language of ultimatums is unacceptable — you cannot talk to Russia like this,” the spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, told Russian news agencies.

Put 100,000 European airmobile or heavy mechanized combat troops in Poland and Putin would have to think about his next move. That the rest of nato could not deliver 10,000 ice cream carts to the war zone is the reason why everything Europe says is hollow.
Putin is up against Good Cop (US) and Out picking up lunch cop (EU). So 99% his active forces are in a trench in Ukraine, threaten him someplace else, at least make him mobilize.

I think that the sanctions gambit has reached the end of it's rope.
The sad facts of the life are that Russia needs to bring this war to a conclusion sooner than later and the Ukraine, US Democrat and Republican war hawks and the EU are openly bragging about how they are negotiating in bad faith with Russia to get an end to hostilities until Trump leaves office after which a new administration will deal with Russia.
Their situational awareness is totally lacking
This May 15 peace talk overture is likely Russia's last, best attempt at see if a peaceful, negotiated settlement is possible.
If the Ukraine and the EU keeps playing it's game Russia will probably opt for a military option.
All of the armchair generals pushing the war are going to find out by the Socratic method exactly what both Russia and Ukraine can and cannot do. The only thing in war that is certain is that once things start, things can spin out of control and in directions nobody anticipated Russia has the forces arrayed necessary to defeat the Ukraine Army.
The Ukraine is set to resist as effectively as possible so they will make Russia pay dearly for every step of their advance
Who knows what will happen but it is certain that a lot of young Ukrainian and Russian kids are going to get killed or mauled and a lot of the increasingly scarce unbroken stuff still left in Ukraine is going to get broken in the process.
