The Catholic Church’s new Pope has publicly described migration as a “huge problem” even as he also urges Christians to treat migrants with respect.
“It’s a huge problem, and it’s a problem worldwide, not only in this country. There’s got to be a way both to solve the problem, but also treat people with respect,” then-Cardinal Robert Prevost preached in a Catholic Mass, according to an undated video:
His comments recognized both the Catholic Church’s universalist and idealist perspective and the practical management problem facing elected secular governments:
Both the first [Old Testament] reading and the [New Testament] Gospel make very clear a message which Pope Francis has been hammering home time and again since his very first trip as Pope, when he went to this little community, an [Mediterranean] island town of Lampedusa, where all these immigrants continue to come.
It’s a huge problem, and it’s a problem worldwide, not only in this country. There’s got to be a way both to solve the problem, but also treat people with respect.
Every one of us, whether we were born in the United States of America or on the North Pole, we all are given a gift of being created in the image and likeness of God, and the day we forget that is the day we forget who we are. We forget who Christ has called us to be.

I have a real good friend (we both are Gen Xers with WW2 fathers) who is more right-wing that I am (and I was more right wing than my Dad...) and she swears Leo is rock solid.
I’m still not sure, and I’ve heard things that make me question. And as a member of the RC faith — I took a lot of heat for referring to Francis as “Pope Commie” because I refused to be a boot licker.
Tear down the Vatican wall.
Wait a few years and see what happens.
Then any Pope can feel free to discuss this topic.
Time will tell
Yes, first of all, everyone should be treated with respect. Part of respect is an expectation that a person will obey the law.
It’s not disrespectful to punish lawbreakers, including illegal aliens.
But it makes me kind of queasy that we don’t have more tools to use against employers. The punishment for knowingly hiring someone without permission to work in the US should be as severe, if not more so, than trying to get a job without a work permit.
Seems the church is in financial straits. Could be why they chose an American pope to draw funds from the wealthy
Charlie Kirk asks if the new Pope is “an Open borders globalist installed to counter Trump?”
Jack Posobiec said the pope’s social media posts “do not bode well for Trump supporters” and suggested that the head of the Catholic Church should not wade into political issues.
And
“Far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who has Trump’s ear, wrote a series of posts trashing the pope, including one calling him “anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open Borders, and a total Marxist like Pope Francis.”
Reported today by the highly adored MSNBC. /S
Sending people who broke into your country back to where they belong without hurting them is treating them with respect.
That said, the Church faces many problems and the Pope should devote his efforts to getting his house in order and concentrate on the truth
And the truth is that 99% of the illegal aliens in the US have entered our country By fraudulent means and they exist here by stealing from well intentioned American taxpayers
There's really no way for anyone to know. He was relatively unknown and unspoken prior to his election/elevation.
Its like, like in the old days, dissecting Soviet newspapers trying and figure out what the new Premier of the Soviet Union might believe.
Ideally he would just avoid politics altogether.
Better yet- let’s hear the Pope speak out against corrupt gov’ts that suppress their citizens as well as drug cartels that traffic people- you know- what the last hypocrite refused to say...
Hmmm...
The focus has to be on looking at why countries are such s-holes that people feel they have to leave, and addressing those issues. And just dumping a bunch of aid isn’t going to solve the problem.
You can’t always tell how someone is going to lead based on past comments. One’s behavior and outlook can change after going from subordinate to the man in charge. Even based on his past, he has a reputation for being a pragmatist, despite voicing left of center opinions on some topics. So hopefully this is a good sign.
No kidding, they walked 1000 miles thru hell to get here and we send them home on a big nice plane with food and beverage. Now Trump will even give them $1000 to leave! Who could ask for more? No respect would be making them walk back home.
which is the humane thing to do

so no idea when this was said?
No he is worse than another Commie I am beginning to think he is of Satan...leaning that way...
There are several levels the Pope (like most people) will act on.
1) I personally will believe and do a, b & c.
2) I think other people should do a, b & c. But they are free to take my recommendation or not.
3) I think the government should force people to pay taxes and the government should do a, b & c.
The 3 are very different.
