Warning: Newsom’s War on Oil Refineries Could Push Gas past $6 Per Gallon — Or $9 — in California

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s hostility to the oil industry could lead to the closure of local refineries — which, in turn, could push gas prices past $6 per gallon, or even $9 per gallon, a local analyst has warned.

Local ABC affiliate KABC-7 reported:

The Phillips 66 Refinery in Los Angeles could close by the end of this year, which would send prices skyrocketing above $6, according to USC Professor Michael Mische.

Mische added that if the Valero Refinery in the Bay Area closes by the end of next year, that could send gas prices soaring close to $9 a gallon.

In response to the expected closures, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s spokesperson told KFMB-TV that the governor has directed the state to intensify collaboration with refineries to maintain a stable and affordable gasoline supply.

And the media will ask: “Why did Trump do this?”

Actually the war on CA refineries has been going on for 30 years.
Every 6-12 months, a community near by sues them for a emission smell and they nearly always win over 50M.

I drove to California last week and saw our destroyed river and the dam removal catastrophy. Gas in Hornbrook was 5.69 a gallon! They are doing all they can to remove us from the rural land.

"... COULD lead to the closure of local refineries"

WTH? The oil companies have said they ARE closing the refineries. There's no "could" about it.

Who is worried about $10 gas? We'll all drive EVs powered by mythical, nonexistent power plants and be happy.

This is the perfect storm of one-party commie rule. Is there ANY chance whatsoever of the California sheeple waking up? It's ironic that the Hispanics who cemented the one-party commie iron fist rulers don't make a lot of money and are the people who can least afford $10 gas or EVs charged with $1/kWh electricity.

There have been plans to build an oil refinery in Tacna, Arizona, for decades. It is only 35 miles from the California border.

Enviromentalist wackos have been protesting and using lawsuits to keep it from being constructed.

I cannot think of a better place to build a refinery. It is on already disturbed desert land, far from population centers. I hoped the first Trump administration would fast track the approval.

Trump could order one built on any of the military reserves.

Lease the running of it to a winning bidder oil company.

Perfectly constitutional.

Matter of fact, Trump could seize the oil fields in CA also.
Pipe that oil to the refinerys he oders built on military reservations.

Yuma..is one place.

“Needful” buildings.

Closest gasoline refineries _outside_ of California right now:
> Eastern Nevada... a small one
> Northern/Western Washington (state)

Just imagine the transportation costs to truck everything in... never mind the onerous regs also placed on the trucking industry.

Question for the environmental whackos... which is better: multiple local refineries in the state or the mileage logged by extra trucks to bring the gasoline in? (I know... many of them would just scream at me about the satanic internal combustion engine).

They do not care.

All they care about is the next flower the need to put in the hair to dance around. And, the next fix.

Only issue with that is it’ll accelerate the emptying of CA. They’ll wind up infesting other states.

“Question for the environmental whackos... which is better: multiple local refineries in the state or the mileage logged by extra trucks to bring the gasoline in? “

That is a great question!

Notice that they also never complain about all the carbon emissions required to import all the junk from China and then ship it all around the country. That is invisible to them.

but that’s just a pipe dream.

Indeed, an opium pipe dream.

Newsom wants the refineries to build more storage tanks to store reserves of fuel. When a market fluctuation occurs, the oil companies can tap that stored fuel to smooth out the price hikes, thereby causing less price shock to consumers. Sounds like a good idea.

But building additional storage tanks is a very expensive proposition. It generally requires land that the refineries don't have, must go through years of environmental reviews before approval to break ground, and they will be fought every step of the way by environmental groups in the form of interminable lawsuits. When the oil companies looked at the total price and compared it with what they could earn in profits it did not make much sense to stay in California. Newsom knows this, but he is a malevolent creature that wants to start something that sounds good, but when the bills come due, he will not be in the governor's office. He wants to be in the Oval Office.
