Shortly after Russia’s unprovoked invasion, Putin put his military’s nuclear forces on high alert. Putin formally reduced the requirements for the Kremlin to deploy its nuclear weapons last year following Ukrainian attacks on the western Russian city of Kursk.
That cleared the way for Russia to use nukes against any nation that attacks its territory and has the backing of a nuclear power.
Recently, Trump has begun to sound more glum about the prospects of getting a deal done between the two sides.
“Maybe it’s not possible to do,” Trump told NBC’s “Meet the Press” in an interview that aired Sunday.
“There’s tremendous hatred, just so you understand, Kristen,” he said, referring to reporter Kristen Welker. “We’re talking tremendous hatred between these two men [Putin and Zelensky] and between, you know, some of the soldiers, frankly. Between the generals.”
Ukrainian ambassador to the US Oksana Markarova denounced Putin in response to his provocative remarks about nuclear weapons and urged countries to take his threat seriously.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin said Sunday he “hopes” Russia won’t have to nuke Ukraine in a boastful interview on state TV.
The Kremlin tyrant downplayed the need for nuclear weapons against Ukraine but wouldn’t rule them out in response to a question about strikes on Russian territory.
“They wanted to provoke us so that we made mistakes,” Putin said, according to a translation. “There has been no need to use those weapons … and I hope they will not be required.

A “logical conclusion” would have been you folks taking out the Ukrainians in about six months.
What would we do if Russia overthrew Canada’s government and then Armed them to hit Washington and NYC?
To save those poor people loyal to Russia in Ukraine, we may have to nuke them.

Ukraine wanted to be left alone, to pursue independent economic policies, same as Poland. Though Poland is swiftly arming up, due to bad news Putin.
From where I sit, I pick it is Ukraine's pride, because they are the ones who want to continue the conflict. I think the ratting of Russia using a nuclear weapon is more for expressing their seriousness of their determination to continue the fight if that is what Ukraine wants to do, and that message is not just for Ukraine's consumption, but for the west's consumption as well.
What I expect is a very dramatic increase in Russia's intensity with their attacks upon Ukraine.
I just pry that Trump doesn't allow himself to get sucked into the fray.
Walks away now Trump. You tried, and did a wonderful job, but there are people who are trying to goad you into this conflict. Let them fight until the conclusion comes to pass.

Where do you get such a silly idea? Russia has declared that it will not stop until Ukraine gives up more land, reduces its military to a token force unable to defend against further Russian aggression, is barred from seeking help from other countries, replaces its democratically elected government with a pro-Russian government approved by Moscow, suppresses expressions of Ukrainian nationalism, and elevates Russian language and culture as equal with that of Ukraine. All Ukraine wants is for Russia to go home.
Meanwhile, in April Russia finished off the Kursk invasion and took 186 square kilometers (116 square miles) of Ukraine.

Ukraine needs to figure out it’s not going to get what it wants.
As another poster said, if Canada joined military pact with Russia, what would USA do? Why should Russia tolerate armed NATO member on its border?

What would DeLong do if Russia invaded his house? You all behave as if Ukraine invaded Russia to start this war. When all they wanted was more economic ties/trade with Europe. Why should they be forced to be over dependent on Russia?
Vlad has been messing around (threats etc.) with gas supplies to Europe for the last 10 years. German industry loved being hooked (heroin) into cheap Russian gas. But it turns out that cheap comes at a high price, when Bad Vlad gets to call the shots.

This is about more than just allowing Russia to keep what it has gained. I posted the other demands that Russia has made. This leaves Ukraine with only two options: fight or surrender. It is Russia that is continuing this war.
