How Trump Offset U.S. Taxpayer Costs For Ukraine Aid Through Long-Awaited Minerals Deal
One America News ^ | May 2, 2025 | Brooke Mallory

With the new mineral rights deal between Washington, D.C., and Kyiv, President Donald Trump fulfilled his pledge to hold Ukraine financially accountable for the billions of dollars that has already been provided in military assistance.

This now opens a new avenue for the U.S. to provide weaponry to the country without using any taxpayer funds.

Following months of discussions, the deal was signed on Wednesday. It established a common investment fund to which both countries will contribute, including through the sale of mineral rights, oil, and gas licenses in Ukraine — with a 50/50 profit split.

The agreement states that rather than contributing more money to the fund, the United States retains the right to receive credit toward its overall contribution — equal to the price of any military hardware, technology, or training, the New York Post reported.

“If, after the effective date, the Government of the United States of America delivers new military assistance to the Government of Ukraine in any form — including the donation of weapons systems, ammunition, technology or training — the capital contribution of the U.S. Partner will be deemed to be increased by the assessed value of such military assistance,” the mineral deal states.

Additionally, the pact does not oblige the U.S. to sell any military aid to Kyiv, nor does it prohibit the U.S. from sending the remaining military aid authorized by Congress under former President Joe Biden, which is anticipated to expire next month.

....

Given Russia’s ongoing drone, bomb, and missile attacks on Ukraine, Ukrainians hope the deal will overturn Trump’s rejection to supply vital air defense hardware. However, the 47th U.S. president has also cautioned that Ukraine should not expect to join NATO or reclaim the territories now-occupied by Russia.

This is like having a dishonest alcoholic friend, and starting a business with him to rescue them, and to hopefully recoup the costs of the past times you have borrowed money to loan him.

This was truly idiotic and ties America to that Uke tar baby in perpetuity.

Yep, though Trump probably saw it as a fig leaf of coverage before we started shipping our too-few-to-share advanced weapons to them again.

“It established a common investment fund to which both countries will contribute, including through the sale of mineral rights, oil, and gas licenses in Ukraine — with a 50/50 profit split.”

Madness. We would need to find a suitcase with 37 trillion in it before we can claim to be flat broke. And we are entering into a 50/50 deal with a country that is broker than we, supported by us, and with a dishonest reputation.
This was a stupid deal, and will drain America even further.

Time to focus on America almost exclusively, and stop fiddle farting around on the eastern front which has NOTHING to do with the lives of normal Americans.

Bottom line, this is a deal for Blackrock... appeasing the high end banking community.

I still don’t get the “minerals” part of the deal.

I have read elsewhere that Ukraine is not as rich in easily recoverable mineral resources as we have been led to believe. This is along the lines of sea water which is estimated to contain 4.5-billion tons of valuable metals and minerals, but almost none of it is economically viable to go after.

As an example, there is estimated to be 4.5 Billion tons of uranium contained in sea water, but who is trying to get uranium from sea water currently. No one!

Unfortunately, this mineral deal with Ukraine is likely a smoke and mirrors type of situation. The best thing that our government can likely do with Ukraine is to stay as far away as possible.

Yet, another boondoggle.

To quote an old TV commercial, "Where's the beef?"

Excuse me. There ain't no beef -- just what comes out at the backend of the beef: BS.

I still don’t get the “minerals” part of the deal.

I believe the term "Minerals" was chosen because it describes every kind of resource existing in Ukraine except factory and farm production.

Basically, President Trump and America OWN Ukraine.

Oh hell no!

This a deal in which both sides benefit. The U.S. benefits. Ukraine benefits.

Damn, Ukraine benefits? What the heck? They will have the funding, even if indirect’ to continue to arm themselves and continue to fight off the Russians?

Putin doesn’t like this deal. Oh, wait... that makes it a good deal for the Ukrainians. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Putin is going to hate Trump now. Oh, well...

I have read the same reports.

I believe that "Minerals" includes Seawater AND Natural Gas, Oil and Coal, including the recoverable elements from all four.

There is definitely much value in those Minerals, and we know they are there.

this mineral deal with Ukraine is likely a smoke and mirrors type of situation...

I have some familiarity with the minerals industry.

Ukraine doesn't have squat except natural gas and farmland.

However this 'deal' effectively handcuffs America to a radiator in Kiev.

This now opens a new avenue for the U.S. to provide weaponry to the country without using any taxpayer funds.

That statement indicates that Ukraine will pay for all weaponry with cash up front, not with IOUs against some speculative future mineral revenue. Forgive my skepticism.

Whether the Deal (Contract) works or not, is dependent on the quality of the Enforcers (whom are US Government employees, supposedly taking orders from President Trump).

President Trump is doing pretty good so far.

What idiot is advising Trump that Russia is going to just stand by and watch the US and Europe come in and take all that was once theirs? Madness!

More on the Ukraine rare earth deal......

The story goes that many of Ukraine’s mineral deposits are located in the “Ukrainian Shield,” a geological region spanning from Luhansk to Kharkiv. Specific regions like Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad are known for their mineral resources.

The most touted legends say there are:
<><>”significant” reserves of various critical minerals
<><>lithium, titanium, uranium, rare earth elements, and graphite,
<><>along with other valuable metals and non-metallic minerals.
<><>resources vital for various industries, including electronics, energy, and defense.
<><>”substantial” lithium deposits, particularly in the Donetsk region, crucial for battery production.
<><>a “significant” share of the world’s titanium reserves, for aerospace, construction, etc
<><>”significant” uranium reserves, essential for nuclear power plants and nuclear weapons.
<><>”substantial” reserves of rare earth elements, vital for a wide range of high-tech applications.
<><>major graphite producer, in central and n/w regions, used in steel production, batteries, etc
<><>”significant” reserves: iron ore, manganese, nickel, cobalt, copper, lead, zinc, silver, other minerals.

Ukraine’s mineral resources are considered “critical” for global supply chains and are “essential” for various industries. The country’s mineral wealth has attracted significant attention and investment, with deals being made to access and exploit these resources.

Backstory: Ukraine’s fairy godfather, Joe Biden’s 2024 arms
pkg, some $425M US tax dollars, handed-over to Ukraine:
<><> air defense capabilities,
<><>air-to-ground weapons,
<><>munitions for rocket systems
<><>artillery,
<><>armored vehicles,
<><>and anti-tank weapons.

The same Biden that tramples on Americans’ 2A rights,
grabbing guns families need to protect themselves,
cavalierly blankets Ukrainian shysters with US weapons.

State Department 2025: “To date, we have provided $65.9 billion
in military assistance” to Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion.

There is no way to get any money out of the minerals deal until the war ends.

The whole Ukrainian government is being propped up by US taxpayer money and will continue to be until the war ends.

So, any military aid from us is adding to the debt, all so we can keep the war going and delay any benefit from the deal.
