Tens of thousands of New York City residents have fled the Northeast for warmer climes in a five-year period — taking nearly $14 billion worth of income out of the Empire State.
A new report by the nonpartisan Citizens Budget Commission found around 30,000 Big Apple dwellers moved to Florida between 2017 and 2022, many of them ending up in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.
The report chalked up the mass migration to factors including lingering effects of the pandemic, as well as general affordability, quality-of-life concerns and safety.
The city has seen a reduction in its adjusted gross income of $9.2 billion from relocations to those two counties alone, and a total of $13.8 billion when accounting for thousands more who moved to other parts of the Sunshine State.

WHO IS JOHN GALT?...........................
I fled CT in 2006, to Florida.
Communist places build walls to keep people in. Capitalist places build walls to keep people out.
Those are what are destroying red states.
Yet, sadly, all those fleeing NYC will still vote Socialist wherever they move.
More communists to the FL east coast commie counties.
95% minimum of them vote straight line Rat.
Uhhhhh, no. If you know where something went, it didn’t vanish. The money spent by New York politicians that you CAN’T explain where it went, that money vanished. Care to put a number on that? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
$14B seems a little low.
Oh, brother...all those people left NYC for:
1) a warmer climate
2) the “lingering effects” of the pandemic
3) general affordability
4) quality-of-life concerns
5) safety
Not one of those people left for the utterly ridiculous ultra-liberal government in NYC and NYS and the horrendous taxes in NYC and NYS. Nope, that didn’t enter into anybody’s thinking about relocating. Maybe part of “general affordability” subsumes high taxes, but author Chris Nesi didn’t call out taxes and governance specifically.
It didn’t vanish. It simply left and moved to Florida.
“Yet, sadly, all those fleeing NYC will still vote Socialist wherever they move.”
For that reason, I hate them. They are unable to acknowledge that they created the mess they are fleeing. The are virii in human form.
I doubt that number. I suspect an enormous chunk of that was real estate owners liquidating their assets once NYC corrupted how loans are made in order to get DJT on his MaraLago property.
The same sort of thing will occur in Delaware when they decided to implement a fully communist asset seizure of Tesla stockholders’ holdings in order to hurt Musk.
NY wants an exit tax to flee them.
A couple couples moved into my buddies neighborhood in Tampa. These people were leftist blue POS and they had the nerve to complain to complain about how they felt uncomfortable being liberal in red Florida. And they hated DeSantis. Luckily the group fo cigar smokers they were seated with gave them hell. Asked why they moved to a red state. Asked them why they won’t leave if they feel unsafe. And point blank said if you can’t conform them GTFO. More red states need to treat leftist transplants like that. Shame them. Make them feel uncomfortable out in public.
pretty soon you wont be allowed to move!
Left NY behind but brought their Democrat votes with them.
That's income, not assets. Basically working employees who've left the state.
The wealthy were caching earnings through corporations in other states already.
In the same article: Long Island increased its population by some 138,000 NYC expats during that same five-year period, resulting in another $11.1 billion drop in adjusted gross income for the city. Some 60,000 ex-city dwellers also moved to Westchester County in that time, depriving the city of another $5 billion worth of income.
That's $30.1B of income, on average $80-$83k per individual per year, that was previously earned within New York City that is now earned elsewhere.
