Truckers are celebrating President Donald Trump’s decision to restore enforcement of a rule that excludes foreign truckers from the roads if they cannot read English-language signs and instructions.
“They’re celebrating … Everybody’s excited, they’re happy,” said Shannon Everett, a cofounder of American Truckers United. who explained the truckers’ problems to Breitbart News in March.
The change is set by an executive order to be signed by Trump on Monday. The order tells Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy “to ensure drivers violating English proficiency rules are placed out-of-service, enhancing roadway safety,” and directs him to revamp other aspects of the trucking industry.
In 2016, President Barack Obama’s deputies told highway inspectors to stop pulling licenses from drivers who cannot speak English. That issue ballooned under President Joe Biden when many thousands of illegal migrants, legalized migrants, and B-1 visa visitors got commercial driver’s licenses via lax rules in California and other states.
“A prominent trucking insurance executive told me that he estimates more than 40% of the truck drivers in the US are first-generation immigrants,” said a tweet from industry executive Craig Fuller. “10% of the total truck driver population does not speak English proficiently.

This is a good move by Trump.
What they're saying is that that is how they drive in their home countries, so what's the problem?
No comments from Federal judges?
Go watch some yewtewb dashcam videos and you’ll see why this is a problem.
Sea of brake lights ahead? Ice on the road? No problem, just maintain 80mph.
Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, a Cuban truck driver, was involved in a fatal accident on Interstate 70 which killed four people and injured several others ... collided with stopped traffic in Denver. = could not read English?
Initially, he was sentenced to 110 years in prison, but his sentence was later commuted to 10 years by Jared Polis..

If the bums can’t read, write AND speak English they have no business driving on our roads.
I remember that.
This should have been done a long time ago. The regulation for English proficiency was always about safety, not discrimination. Believe me - you would would be amazed at the number of foreign drivers who cannot communicate in English. They will hand you their phone with Google Translate opened.
I welcome this decision by President Trump.
Big Truck
Hey Truckers! Remember to vote MAGA!
Not just truckers. Anybody who drives or rides on the roads.
Dont do mechanical work on a truck run by towel heads.
They cut a hole in the sleeper floor and shit trough the hole.
They load up with up to three drivers and run on one license illegally.
Most have no idea where the destination drop off point is. So use their phones for directions and end up in residential areas.
Ive had to show them the dif lock in their trucks. Didnt know they had anything like that. Sit there spinning one wheel...
This should have been done a long time

i wonder how many lives were lost in wrecks before this sanity was restored ?
Quite.
Well done Mr President.
You used to be able to support a family in a solid middle-class standard of living on a truck driver's salary.
An excellent move, Pres. Trump.
Needs to be more than just reading signs. I am in the business and they can’t even communicate about repairs that need to be done to their trucks. Mainly safety repairs. They try to dodge doing it correctly to make the vehicle safe because they do not understand DOT regulations.
Which causes shops like mine to turn down even working on it at all or it creates a liability for us because they could not explain the whole story and there are other safety issues they do not tell us or cannot tell us because they do not speak English.
Not having a fair understanding of English is a huge huge safety issue in many aspects, not just reading signs...
My son is a semi operator. It’s a lot more than just being a driver.
Looks like his job prospects remain high.
He’s American and drug free.
He had a bad crash last year when he rolled a truck while evading a school bus that pulled out right in front of him.
The State Trooper on the scene told him that they would normally drive him for a drug test but he could just go tomorrow whenever he felt like it.
It was a hero move not a crash.
Good move, but a federal judge will issue a restraining order.
