Nearly 100 days. Wide-ranging and chaotic firings across at least 30 agencies.
At least 121,000 federal workers have been fired or laid off in the three months since President Donald Trump’s second term began, according to a CNN analysis of official statements, internal memos from government officials and news reports. It’s a vast number that doesn’t count those placed on administrative leave or who took voluntary buyouts.
The fallout of the sweeping layoffs has already had a ripple effect across the country and raised questions about the government’s capacity to meet public needs when it comes to education, healthcare, transportation and public safety, experts told CNN. The threats to essential services that Americans depend on have sparked concerns about the future, with a recent CNN poll showing more than half of US adults expect cuts to federal programs to hurt their families and the economy.
Federal layoffs, which surged in February and tapered down in March and April, surpassed layoffs in any other industry in 2025 so far. While most of the targeted agencies saw reductions of under 10%, others like the Department of Education or Agency for International Development were gutted, according to CNN’s analysis.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
121,000? Wow. That’s a big number.
Bill Clinton laid off 377,000.
Did CNN do a big analysis on that? Or was it just “meh”?
I dont recall. Where did Billy find all those layoffs and was that over all 8 years? Did government really get smaller under the bent one?
Fire More!
The feral government was never intended to reach the gargantuan size it had reached. Trump needs to keep the chain saw after it. States can pick up any of these areas that have been cut if they choose to do so.
I have to be honest, I haven’t noticed any difference at all.
It may have something to do with the fact that I’m not attached to a govt. teat.
Not enough. Just a drop in the bucket. Who will even notice that they’re missing.
First term. When Bill and the Dems got slaughtered in the 94 mid terms for pushing Hillarycare, he announced the era of big government was over. Of course he was lying but he did order a RIFF for the optics.
Is CNN interested in paying down the national debt?

I’m all for it, but it should be done with a scalpel and not an axe. Those workers who are out there protecting our natural resources, parks and wildlife, should not be short-changed. They are doing important work.
LOL
These were all probationary so low end of the pay scale.
Plus benefits call it average of $64K each in salary and benes.
X 121K = about $8B.
8 lousy B. It’s not even a dent.

Thanks for the info.
How many took the voluntary buyouts?
How many took admin leave and then will be leaving?
The drama queens are out in full force at CNN. 121,000 is a drop in the bucket. We currently are at about 3 million non-military federal government employees. Recent history before the Biden massive expansion was 2.7 million. If you adjust for the post-Cold War defense reductions, we should be at around 2 million. In essence, the government got rid of defense employees and built-up non-defense employees since the 1990s.
The election is over CNN doesn’t need to campaign for him any longer, unless, like me they’re up for a third term. Maybe they need 2028 hats.
Just like the lefties at CNN to pretend that these,Fed time servers aren’t a drain on the country. The ones who are left will engage in blackmail by cutting any program that provides actual benefits and leave the worthless ones completely alone. This is racketeering and RICO needs to be used on these bureaucrats.
BUT WHO WILL PICK THE CROPS?

Perspective. It has only been 100 days.
