The man who allegedly plowed through a crowd enjoying a Filipino festival in southeast Vancouver on Saturday, killing at least 11, lost his brother to murder last year.
Kai-ji Adam Lo, charged Sunday with eight counts of murder, had dozens of interactions with police related to his deteriorating mental health.
Vancouver Police said that more charges are expected as the investigation continues. And they said Sunday that some of the victims of the unprecedented slayings remain unidentified.
About 10 Vancouver officers executed a search warrant just after 7 p.m. Sunday at the east Vancouver house Lo, 30, shared with his mother. They carried boxes as they entered through a side gate that appeared to lead to both a basement suite and a laneway house
Police vehicles were parked both in front of the house and in the alley.
Last year, Lo wrote on a fundraising page to cover his brother Alexander’s funeral costs that “it pains me deeply to put these words down, but my brother has been taken from us in a senseless act of violence, something we never saw coming.”
“Our reality has abruptly shifted. Despite our disagreements, the harsh truth that he’s no longer with us hits me with an overwhelming force,” Adam Lo said.
The body of Alexander Lo, 31, was found in a home near Knight Street and East 33rd Avenue about 1 a.m. on Jan. 28, 2024.
Dwight William Kematch, 39, was arrested at the house and later charged with second-degree murder.
“I’m burdened with remorse for not spending more time with him,” he said. “I implore you to keep his soul in your thoughts and prayers.”

Sad.
Ping Canada Ping
I didn’t spend much time on FR yesterday and a fairly small amount of time on-line———was unaware of this until a half-hour ago. One breaking article posted yesterday that I missed on this.
While the timing is really weird in terms of the election, it doesn’t look like terrorism to me—senseless is often over-used in such situations, but does seem to apply in this instance. I don’t see how this would serve Carney, and everyone else even less, which seems to me to rule out a wet op.
I will post one or two election-day threads later, but am going to get more sleep first. The main news for the last week in my estimation has been the lack of movement in the polls, which is almost a non-story.
Which probably carries a max of 1 year house arrest in socialist Canada. He’d get years in prison for insulting a transvestite.
Reviewing everything....it’s plain simple manslaughter....which you’d typically get (before 2000) life in prison, in Canada.
Presently...I don’t think you can give anything less than 10 years for the amount of deaths caused. Course, he is a immigrant type, and they might find some weird clause for 3 years.
“had dozens of interactions with police”
He was on their radar.
Kai-ji Adam Lo doesn’t sound like a Canadian name
It sounds far too foreign for that.
The perp was known to the police.
Anyone know if the police have been asked if the perp was being pursued by police at the time of the crash...?
I’d ask.
Hadn’t thought of that. That would make some sense of the situation——how recent the most recent contact and attempt at contact were would be of interest. If he is nuts and a drug user, it seems to me that “senseless” is accurate.
No, but it fits right in in Hongcouver. When Britain gave up Hong Kong, a substantial portion of the population sailed East.
11 dead. 8 counts of manslaughter?
Do canucks call murder manslaughter?
Eff Carney.
If he wins , kiss CAnada goodbye as a nation in decline.
Canada and the USA need to integrate economies, free up Canadas energy sector, get rid of interprovincial tariffs, and develop enough Canadian wealth to fund our own military.
With Carney as PM, that will never happen.
With Polievre, we stand a chance.I wish Danielle Smith were running as PM.
The carnage occurred at the end of Lapu Lapu Day. What's that - Victoria Day in Inuit? No, it's a Filipino celebration for a Mactan chief who fought against Magellan and the forces of colonialism in the 1520s. In other words, it's nothing to do with Canada, which is, naturally, why it's been officially recognised by British Columbia since 2023. Not much has been revealed about the perp, except that, as the coppers confirmed, they had been aware of him. That's putting it mildly. From the indefatigable Joe Warmington in The Toronto Sun:
Sources told me the man allegedly responsible for this heinous attack had not only had more than 100 interactions with police, there was one in the hours before the mayhem.
From:
You can't, even in the Canadian press, ignore an incident that kills eleven people - which is eleven more than have been found in all those "mass graves" Sir John A Macdonald was running on the side. But the symbolism, on the eve of Election Day, is a bit too stark for taxpayer-funded Big Media to go all-in on. If any functioning society is a compact between past, present and future, then here in the hyper-present of today's vote Canada's past (Hudson's Bay) is dead and Canada's future (multiculti jubilations) has been mown down. As Mr Warmington puts it:
Canada is no longer recognizable. It's spinning out of control, and no one in charge seems to have any answer.
Awwww. The criminal us a victim. We get a profile of the criminal. Classic situational ethics.
Japanese or Indonesian, I’d guess.
Almost certainly Chinese, likely of the Hong Kong Variety.
He’ll claim he is verrückt and skate...at least he would in a US democrat court.
