“While it is encouraging to see the Trump administration shut down the southern border and deport a few plane loads of violent, gang-affiliated illegal aliens, it is a drop in the proverbial bucket. “

150,000 criminal illegals already deported!

One problem:

Employers in many industries, such as construction, hospitality, landscaping, retail, and maintenance, know it is against the law to employ illegal immigrants, but they also know that there is no enforcement. More importantly, there is NO WILL to enforce.

if businesses were fined $1000/day for each illegal hired, the fines would bankrupt any company over time. Just enforce what is already on the books and they would have no mo et if you cut off their many, many welfare and child handouts. They are allowed to walk over and we pay them to breed. That could be ended in one day. I wish someone, anyone would do this. Trump commands an actual army. Do it. roll over the marxist judges that are paid for

Under appropriately (sufficiently) inhospitable conditions, yes! They will self-deport.

There are, by most conservative estimates, between 20 and 30 million illegal immigrants currently residing in the U.S.

My estimate would put it around 40 million. It will take multiple administrations to make much of a dent in the number. Many (most?) will never be deported. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

President Trump is working to starve the money machine that the Democrats have built to funnel taxpayer money to illegal aliens.

He has also done a good job paving the way for deportations. A good example it the requirement that all aliens in the US register with the US government in accordance with long standing INS laws.

Any alien, legal or illegal who did not register by the deadline is subject to criminal and civil penalties and deportation regardless of their "status"

Sorry Chris Boland, but E-Verify didn't work, and there are many who are willing to ignore E-Verify even if it were mandated. E-Verify became mandatory, for who? Those known to be citizens of this nation.

More stupidity offered up that does not solve the issue of illegal entry into this nation.

Getting rid of birthright citizenship will be a big help. No welfare, no schooling of their kids needs to be looked at again by the SCOTUS. That and the threat of getting picked up on the street will force many to leave. But if they can’t get work or housing they will leave in droves.

The Trump administration plans to fine migrants under deportation orders up to $998 a day if they fail to leave the United States and to seize their property if they do not pay, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.

The fines stem from a 1996 law that was enforced for the first time in 2018, during President Donald Trump’s first term in office.

The Trump administration plans to apply the penalties retroactively for up to five years, which could result in fines of more than $1 million, a senior Trump official said, requesting anonymity to discuss non-public plans.

Announce 60 days to self deport and report at the deportation center at the border. Leave a dna sample. At some point when self deportations are done, develop a very robust guest worker program.

A limited number of self-deportees may be allowed to return under very strict control.

Don’t self-deport in 0 days, your chances at return slide to zero.

There may be a path to future citizenship far into the future. It will be a very narrow and hard to navigate path.

Make it illegal to pay welfare benefits (I know SCOTUS has said you must feed them, give them a sack of beans and a sack of rice). Educate them is school that speaks their language, keep them out of regular schools so they don’t hold back American kids.

And they don’t ‘live in the shadows’. They are arrogant, especially the Mexicans.

RE: 20 and 30 million illegal immigrants currently residing in the U.S. If the Trump administration were to deport 10,000 per week, it would take over thirty-eight years to deport them.

I think that is a best case scenario with 100 years being closer to the truth.

There are two magnets that drive immigration: jobs and public benefits. If the administration cuts off employment opportunities, it must also cut off public benefits; no more free housing, cell phones, debit cards, healthcare, and all the swag that the Biden administration provided. Instead, provide an airline ticket to a country of the illegal immigrant’s choice (provided that the destination country is willing to accept them). If the chosen country will not accept entry, repatriate the immigrant to his or her country of origin.

Excellent plan.

Get rid of the incentives to stay here, and things will change, but as long as they get work and freebies, there's no incentive to.

I don’t have to read the article. The answer to mass deportations is obvious. You threaten employers, you threaten the property of illegals, you take away the free money and giveaways,, you threaten government officials, and you make a few examples. And then maybe you allow for a 30 day grace period. Before you start confiscating vehicles. This is not complicated.

The largest employers of illegals are still agriculture, food processing, and construction. Those were the industries that have consistently opposed any effort to actually hold employers accountable for employing the illegal alien, and Republicans have consistently held that enforcing sanctions against employers is anti-business and anti-Republican.
