Trump: U.S. Will Lead Attack Against Iran ‘Very Willingly’ If Talks Fail
Breitbart ^ | 04/25/2025 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 04/25/2025 7:25:01 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

President Donald Trump told Time magazine in an interview published Friday that he will “very willingly” lead the U.S. into attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities if the regime does not make a deal to stop its program. Trump was, as usual, bullish about the prospects of making a deal and avoiding war, especially given the economic pressure he has restored on the regime. He added that he had not stopped Israel from attacking Iran on its own, but had not made it “comfortable” for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to make that choice. Asked if Netanyahu would “drag” the U.S. into war, Trump said the U.S. would lead the effort:

I think that we’re going to make a deal with Iran. I think we’re going to make a deal with Iran. Nobody else could do that.

I didn’t stop [Israel]. But I didn’t make it comfortable for them, because I think we can make a deal without the attack. I hope we can. It’s possible we’ll have to attack because Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. But I didn’t make it comfortable for them, but I didn’t say no. Ultimately I was going to leave that choice to [Israel], but I said I would much prefer a deal than bombs being dropped.

You asked if [Netanyahu]’d drag me in, like I’d go in unwillingly. No, I may go in very willingly if we can’t get a deal. If we don’t make a deal, I’ll be leading the pack.

I didn’t vote for Donald J. Bush twice. I usually just ignore this kind of distracting noise.

Wouldn’t it be better to just let Israel nuke the idiots with tactical nukes?

I lean 50/50 on it. Usually I lean towards not our business. Let others handle it.

But Iran has attacked US cargo ships through their Houthi proxies. That's our business. Plus there's the matter of securing sea cargo routes like the Suez Canal (even if other ships are attacked, we have a vested interest in making sure all cargo lanes we use are safe).

Then there's the matter that Iran's leaders and people every now and then yell Death to America. How much of that should we count as just worthless postering? At what point do we count their stated threats as declaration of war?

Those are why I'm 50/50 on it.

War against Iran is a potential political loser for Trump but it may put him in good standing with some key uniparty republicans that may help Trump get his agenda passed. If Trump signs off on military intervention in Iran it will be well planned and executed. It will be different in unexpected ways from the ham-handed Bush(Shrub) war making. I wouldn’t want to be Iran. I would expect that top Iranian leaders will be successfully targeted, for example.

Israel can fight its own battles. Don’t be GWB, Trump.

But Iran has attacked US cargo ships...

Absolutely not true. The shipping companies intentionally flagged those ships in countries other than the United States in order to avoid fees and oversight from the United States.

Let those companies go to the countries whose flag they fly to seek redress.

True. But why suffer casualties when Americans will do it for you?

Iran’s capacity to develop nuclear weapons and ICBMs that can hit anywhere in the world is one of the many lingering curses of the Biden administration.

If the terrorist leaders in Iran are allowed to develop those capacities, then what is worse, bombing Iran or allowing them to nuke us?

A surge in oil prices if Persian Gulf is shut down due to Iran firing or the threat of missile strikes. This would have a global impact of the economy.

By my count, the US and Israel have at least 150 F-35s within striking distance of Iran (as I write this, the HMS Prince of Wales, the USS Carl Vinson, and the Harry Truman have amassed over 100, and Israel has at least 50 in Northern Israel at the moment). That does not count the assets that have not been announced. So it appears that the choice will be made in the next few days, bomb or not, depending on what Iran does. I know God has this, so whatever happens will be His will.

I guess we better not let Iran shut down the Gulf then.
