Trump Slams Zelenskyy for 'Inflammatory' Crimea Comment
Newsmax ^ | April 23, 2025 | Charlie McCarthy

President Donald Trump lambasted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for saying his Eastern European country "will not legally recognize" Russia's occupation of Crimea.

Zelenskyy made the comment during a press conference on Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Trump used a Wednesday post on his social media platform to chastise Zelenskyy for the comment, which came at a time when the U.S. president is trying to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

"Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is boasting on the front page of The Wall Street Journal that, 'Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea. There's nothing to talk about here.' This statement is very harmful to the Peace Negotiations with Russia in that Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"It's inflammatory statements like Zelenskyy's that makes it so difficult to settle this War."

Trump entered office in January with his highest priorities including securing a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

When Zelenskyy visited Washington, D.C., in late February, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance called the Ukrainian president disrespectful over bringing an end to the war. Zelenskyy was asked to leave the White House before signing an expected minerals deal between the U.S. and Ukraine.

"He has nothing to boast about!" Trump continued in his Wednesday post. "The situation for Ukraine is dire — He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country.

"I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever."

I wonder of Zelenskyy is still using cocaine? His behavior has been erratic.

This has been going on since 2022 and his main financial supporter (the U.S.) can’t afford to throw billions down the drain anymore.

At some point you have to face reality. Cornwallis and Lee did.

100% he thinks he is getting the land he lost back. He is not. His stubbornness will only result in him losing more land.

Zelenskyy is scamming too much money to be interested in ending the war. He’s a grifter and in it for the bucks!

I hope we get rid of all aid to Ukraine so that the normal people actually get to realize there is a war killing a bunch of people. If we let their economy suffer maybe they will wake up.

I believe Trump has said all military aid ends regardless of whether this peace deal is approved. But I think he needs to clarify that ALL aid to Ukraine ends. No more US funding their workers’ pensions, etc.

The peace deal is a godsend for Ukraine. Zelensky is being told to act this way by our so-called allies and our own deep state which apparently has Susan Rice operating inside The Pentagon. I wonder what her and others are up to. Are they running covert ops against The President and his Cabinet?

It’ll be interesting to see what james O’Keefe has about “resistance” at the Pentagon.

Our so-called allies and the Deep State are gunning for WWIII.

Yup sounds like a great deal for Ukraine, can't understand why they would not accept it. /s

What's reported, freeze of conflict, US recognizes Crimea as Russian, and raises sanctions on Russia while Ukraine gets another "Budapest Agreement", but this time without the US. Its everything Putin wanted.

The latest pitch, as described by one senior administration official, offers Russia several “carrots” to entice it to come to the table while asking Ukraine to make several major concessions.

What Russia gets

Formal US recognition of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula as Russian territory — a major departure from Washington’s longstanding Welles doctrine, which refuses to acknowledge annexed territory as belonging to the seizing power.

“De facto” recognition of Russia’s occupation of four regions in eastern Ukraine, meaning the US would acknowledge Moscow controls the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts while formally considering them Ukrainian land.

A pledge that the US would not support Ukraine becoming a member of NATO.

Lifting sanctions to boost Russia’s economy, which has struggled throughout its war on Ukraine.

Opportunities for more economic cooperation with the US, especially in the energy and industrial fields.

What Ukraine gets Assistance from European military forces as “a robust security guarantee” following a cease-fire. The US would not be involved in this measure.

Russia would return a small portion of Ukraine’s Kharkiv oblast currently occupied by Moscow.

Navigation rights in the Dnieper River, which runs along the front lines.

Assistance in post-war rebuilding, though it is unclear from where that funding would come.

Nobody asked the little grifter what he thought about Crimea!
Thr Korean truce/ceasefire has lasted over 70 years. No need to agree about everything, but Z needs to acknowledge his new borders.
.
Getting Putin to agree to abandon his annexed but not captured territory is a major breakthrough.
This is the only reasonable solution to freeze the lines where they are to become the new borders....This proxy war on Russia needs to end. This is the best that Z could ever get.Crimea has been part of Russia since 1783 , not an issue. If Z won’t work with this it will be time to turn off the money and wash our hands of this globo homo grifter.

As you’ve just pointed out, the Korean truce has held for over seventy years...

However, North and South Korea still don’t recognize each other because they want all of the territory that used to be “Korea”.

The USA was never so retarded as to insist that either side of the Korean DMZ formally recognize the other.

So the Korean example is a pretty crap precedent for what Trump’s insisting Ukraine do now, because that peace held BECAUSE neither side was ordered to recognize the other.

A plausible ceasefire and frozen conflict in eastern Europe would be if Ukraine merely went as far as considering Donbas and Crimea to be illegally occupied by Russia, while Russia withdraws completely from Zaporizhzhia and Kherson - two oblasts it cannot hope to control without mass mobilisation.

Maybe in seventy years’ time, the populations in those regions will come to an accord, maybe not. We have the precedents of the Balkans, Cyprus, Korea, and even the China / Taiwan dispute to draw on.

Peace doesn’t need one side of a frozen conflict to be forced to legitimize the position of the other side.

My understanding is that putin has agreed to forego capturing the remainder of Kherson and Zapporiza. The river is a good defensible border for both sides.Z got sweetener with some Rus held territory around Karkov and free river navigation. He gets to avoid a rump state.
I hope Z will go along with this so this war can end and both sides can stop dying. He isn’t going to get any land back.
