A federal raid at a Home Depot store in Pomona [California] has sparked concern as families and community members said a group of day laborers were taken into custody Tuesday.
Immigrant rights advocates held a demonstration outside the store, protesting the targeting of those they described as innocent civilians.
“Our people should not be living in fear,” one speaker said.
Video of the incident showed vehicles appearing to belong to Border Patrol surrounding the store’s parking lot Tuesday morning. The people who were taken into custody were transported to an undisclosed location.
A man named Carlos spoke in Spanish as he described witnessing the raid.
“I arrived here and when I started seeing the scene, I started crying,” his translator told KTLA. “We’re here, we’re human beings, we’re only here to support ourselves and to maintain our families.”
“It is not a crime to look for work,” said Jessica Bansal, an attorney with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network.
On the same morning at a nearby barber shop on Holt Avenue in Pomona, Miguel Majin said his father was also taken into custody without warning.
“They get him at gunpoint and he surrenders,” Majin tells KTLA’s Shelby Nelson. “I think it’s unnecessary to use guns. My dad’s not a criminal. He has properties. He pays taxes.”
Majin said he has no idea where his father has been taken. He does confirm that his father had been previously been deported in the early 2000s.
“I get that they’re deporting criminals, but my dad is not a criminal and I believe it’s not fair what’s happening in Pomona,” Majin said.

They entered ILLEGALLY. SORRY.
“Our people should not be living in fear”
No, they shouldn’t and they would not need to fear being arrested and deported if they had come in legally. But they didn’t. They broke the law and snuck into the country. They should live in fear until they self deport. And if they don’t, I hope they are arrested and deported.
Deported, re-entered, but his son says he is not a criminal.
Oh the poor innocent day laborers, waaah!
They broke the law. They were here ILLEGALLY! LEAVE. GO HOME.
Depends. How'd you get here? Legally, through proper channels? Got the requisite paperwork? Or did you come here illegally?
Rhetorical question.
He does confirm that his father had been previously been deported in the early 2000s.
That was a hint that maybe he shouldn’t be here.
The son should call his family in Mexico to see if his dad has arrived yet. Then he should pack his bags and leave the U.S. to join him there. Family reunited. Problem solved.
““It is not a crime to look for work,” said Jessica Bansal, an attorney with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network.”
Love how they play games with the language. In this case, technically, he’s right. What is a crime is actually WORKING for pay (or barter), if one is not legally here, or if one is here legally, but doesn’t have authorization to work (such as a tourist).
And it really is as simple as that.....no matter how complicated the left wants to make it.
Those they described as innocent civilians. These very same people who have something to say would have a problem with these invaders living in a house next to theirs, occupancy 20 or more. I see it my community and Im sure everyone does too
“A man named Carlos spoke in Spanish as he described witnessing the raid.” That about sums up my feeling of no empathy here. They are trespassers.
BOO freakin HOO.
Go home, get in line like civilized people, and try again.
LEGALLY!!!!
So, the father was deported before, and came back
They are working for cash, not paying taxes, if they were White, they’d be in lots of trouble for that.
If you are here illegally, then yes, it is.
Here illegally get out, go back and fix your own country’s problems don’t destroy ours.
Our families souldn’t have to live in Fear, therefore they souldn’t be illegally here. The USG is here to help you live where you belong in your legal country of origin.
I can’t wait till ICE starts concentrating on Maryland. The Home Depot in Baltimore is one of the busiest in the entire country. There are normally dozens if illegals standing outside looking for work. It makes me sick.
I haven’t been by there in a while but I assume the numbers of illegals is now lower. Maybe I’ll check later today.
Home Deport
