Post Falls woman files tort claim with Kootenai County clerk over town hall removal (Idaho)
Coeur d'Alene Press ^ | April 21, 2025 | Bill Buley

An Idaho woman filed a notice of tort claim Monday with the Kootenai County clerk saying county officials and others violated her constitutional rights when she was removed from a town hall meeting in February.

“Town halls are intended to foster conversation and discourse across the aisle, which is why I am deeply alarmed that private security dragged me out of the public meeting for simply exercising my fundamental right of free speech,” Teresa Borrenpohl said in a press release.

The tort claim says Borrenpohl is seeking damages of at least $5 million.

Wendy Olson, an attorney for Borrenpohl, said the tort claim "is the first step in the civil legal system for pursuing justice for Teresa and holding Lear Asset Management and Sheriff Norris responsible for the disturbing events that happened at the town hall event.

“We have put the county on notice that its public officials intentionally obstructed Teresa’s constitutional rights and physically assaulted her in the process," Olson said in the release.

According to the tort claim, "Borrenpohl was fearful for her safety throughout the time the men assaulted her. Because the men were unidentified, because Sheriff Norris directed them to physically remove her, and because of the manner in which they dragged her from the auditorium, Ms. Borrenpohl feared that she was being kidnapped."

It goes on to state Borrenpohl "suffered pain, scratches, bruising and emotional distress as a result of Sheriff Norris’ actions and the actions of the unidentified men. Her clothing was damaged, and she was intentionally and willfully manhandled in a manner that harmed her dignity and reputation, causing her personal humiliation."

Yeah, this woman is a leftist loon known around this area. Probably in good with the loon that torched Cornel Razor’s shop here in Sandpoint.

I hope the judge throws it out of court. If she mouths off at court and gets into contempt, that’ll be another ‘incident’ where she’s physically dragged out of a room… but it’ll be a courtroom.
In cuffs.
Yeaaahh I wondered if she was a nutter of the D type.
She is.
FOUR MILLION DOLLARS?
I don’t think so.

It would be nice if everyone who attended the meeting would sue HER for disrupting the event, thereby injuring THEIR constitutional rights to attend a meeting & causing them emotional harm as a result.

These people obviously have big money behind them to pay for lawfare.

These activists would monopolize the entire time for public comment if the councils let them. I say have a trap door that opens if the speaker goes on beyond 5 minutes. Or maybe a gong.

“ torched Cornel Razor’s shop here in Sandpoint”

I have not heard about that. That’s so sad to hear. What happened?

Exactly. If you are you are a leftist loon and are disruptive, then asked to leave, just walk out peacefully. Life is so simple.

But, no. Their first impulse is to lie down on the floor so they have to be dragged out. This was the MO of the “student protests” in the 60s. Same old Marxist playbook.

Their second impulse is to make Molotov Cocktails.

I see this lawsuit getting tossed.

The sheriff was carrying out his lawful duty using the lawful resources available to his office.

The USSC has ruled numerous times that sheriffs, counties, cities and states are sovereign entities and are part of our federalist system. How sheriffs carry out their sovereign mandate is established by our common law mandates. The sheriff hiring people to enforce the law is probably found within the sheriff’s sovereign role.

Here's the problem. It is not definitively known who specifically hired Lear Asset Management, as conflicting statements obscure a clear answer. The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC), led by Brent Regan, organized the February 22, 2025, town hall at Coeur d'Alene High School. Regan initially said he hired Lear Asset Management due to reported threats against Rep. Jordan Redman but later claimed they volunteered without a contract. No other individual or entity has been conclusively identified as making the hiring decision.

Video of the meeting shows Norris attempting to pull Borrenpohl from her seat after she refused to leave following disruptions. When she resisted, Norris gestured to plainclothes security personnel, saying, "Guys, get her," after which Lear employees forcibly removed her. Witnesses and reports confirm Norris directed the security team to act, and a Lear member later claimed they were following a "direct lawful order" from Norris.

Norris denied knowing the security arrangements or who hired Lear, creating some ambiguity about his full involvement.

So the Lear Asset Management people were in plain clothes, it is not known who hired them, it is doubtful they deputized, Sheriff Norris did not know about the security arrangements, Norris gave them the nod to get the disruptive woman out of the meeting.

It's a giant fustercluck.

“It’s a giant fustercluck.”

Maybe not.

The sheriff as a sovereign has nearly a thousand years of common law precedence to maintain order as he sees fit.

I believe the suit is a wild fishing expedition by the nutty leftists.

The lawyers will fight it out in court, if necessary.
