Who would have thought that something as seemingly straightforward as the ‘definition of a woman’ could cause such a reaction?
Thousands of trans rights activists have taken to the streets today (April 19) in protest at the recent Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman. This is following a ruling that took place on Wednesday, April 16, when the UK’s apex court issued a pivotal judgement, affirming that the terms “woman” and “sex” within the 2010 Equality Act pertain strictly to biological women and sex.
Trans rights protests take place in England and Scotland
However, in coming to this conclusion, the powers that be have also effectively permitted the exclusion of transgender women from single-sex spaces. The UK Government confirmed that the decision was unanimous, with five judges bringing ‘clarity and confidence’ for women and service providers. It would appear that this clarity has now enraged an entire community that has taken to the streets in protest.
According to the banners and chanting, they are calling for ‘trans liberation’ and immediate ‘trans rights now’. While many have gathered in central London, protests are also taking place elsewhere, including in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Brighton and Hastings, England. Many believe that the Supreme Court’s ruling denies trans people the ability to fully transition by banning them from having the same rights as people born into the gender they are transitioning into.
Angry chants against JK Rowling during trans rights protests
Aside from complaining about the government ruling, Harry Potter author JK Rowling is also in the firing line. She has been extremely vocal about her views on the perceived dangers of trans women in ‘women only’ spaces such as bathrooms and domestic abuse shelters. So thrilled was she with the Court ruling, she put a post on social media platform X, saying “I love it when a plan comes together” as she smoked a cigar. Those old enough to remember will know this to be the famous catchphrase used by Hannibal Smith in episodes of the A-Team.
Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney has said he “understands” the “hurt and anguish” trans people are feeling over the UK Supreme Court verdict on the definition of a woman.
He told the PA news agency: “Now, of course, there will be many, many people who feel very hurt by the decision that’s been taken by the Supreme Court.
Scotland’s First Minister publicly accepts judgement of the Supreme Court
“I understand that hurt and that anguish, and in my reaction to the Supreme Court judgement I’ve said two things: Firstly, that I accept the judgement of the Supreme Court because I believe in the rule of law, but secondly that I believe in the protection of the rights of everybody within our society.
“The Supreme Court made it abundantly clear that the existing legal instruments that are in place to protect the rights of trans people needed to continue to operate.”
However, Avery Greatorex, co-chair of Pride in Labour, told the PA news agency: “Not a single trans person or trans organisation was represented in that case, and so we weren’t allowed to have a seat at the table, which is obviously a very concerning thing for our community when decisions are being made without us.
Over to you – Do you believe the Supreme Court is correct in its legal definition of a woman?
Good for her.
Outrage by transgenders?
Too frickin’ bad!
I’m tired of their outrage and their stinking sh#t blotch on society.
Trannies put the “queen” in “drama queen”.
Will science denial ever solve the mystery?
Absolutely!
Rowling is not allowed to take pride in her victory?
Only the left is allowed to celebrate their wins?

She created a fantasy world but she ain’t living in one.
It’s England!
She may be arrested for committing a “hate crime”.
Gonna need a biologist to figure out all this.
It’s interesting how influential the trans lobby has become in the UK. Despite what people here seem to think, it’s MUCH worse in the UK.
I wonder why?
Oh, the ferals are outraged. Are they going to burn the entire city down?
I feel bad I didn’t buy JK’s Harry Potter books. Maybe I can gift some to my grandchildren, though.
Unless all physical parts “Inside and out” have the characteristics of a female, and have the ability to reproduce I tend to go with the court’s decision which rules them out to be a female. However I still feel they are more of a female than any male who all of a sudden decides he wants to be a female and tries every trick in the book to reverse Mother Nature’s decision.
In Fantastic Beasts movie she has Dumbledore as gay.
Good for her.
But it’s a bit surprising to me that she’s so logical and conservative on this issue, yet she has a history of trolling/being critical of President Trump.
I’ve seen basically every Harry Potter movie. Have most of the books. Think Zelazny, Eddings, and Donaldson are better fantasy writers but thought her stuff was decent. Now have a higher level of respect for Rowlings. Going to buy more of here books.
Who would have thought JK would stand up for us like this?
BTW Hermione (sp?) should have married Harry. Even Rowlings says so now. 😀
