IRS making plans to rescind Harvard’s tax-exempt status

The Internal Revenue Service is making plans to rescind the tax-exempt status of Harvard University, according to two sources familiar with the matter, which would be an extraordinary step of retaliation as the Trump administration seeks to turn up pressure on the university that has defied its demands to change its hiring and other practices.

A final decision on rescinding the university’s tax exemption is expected soon, the sources said.

The administration already has blocked more than $2 billion in funding from the nation’s oldest university, which is fighting the White House’s policy demands, citing the constitutional right of private universities to determine their own teaching practices.

Harvard University's endowment is valued at $53.2 billion. This endowment is the largest among U.S. universities.

It is simple, you do not want to accept federal regulations on your school do not take federal money.

Also if you do not want to follow federal regulations for tax exempt status do not expect to be tax exempt.

So simple anyone but Harvard can understand.

I don't think you should be considered “private” when your operating account has $2 billion dollars that came from taxpayers who would never be accepted to attend Harvard. Let's ask Larry Arnn at Hillsdale what he thinks……

yes... that is part of my argument to the Patience Preachers. If there was anything going on as far as investigations into ANY Fraud, or anything else, it would have been leaked to the press by now. and in turn the democrats would be screaming bloody murder. but there is nothing... things are quiet as a mouse. that can only mean one thing.

No investigations are happening...

Finally, the most profit-focused university in the country is recognized as a for-profit college! Bwahaha.

How they ever became ‘tax exempt’ in the first place should raise some eyebrows.

Helluva an arrangement.

Here's the other irony. Harvard, Yale, GW, Dartmouth, and thousands of others, lobbied major corporations to farm out all corporate research labs and the college will employ a few executives from the company for grad students to take over the research and development of those companies. Dow, Henkel, BASF, Pharmaceuticals, nuclear medicine, etc....

Then the university does first to file, patents the products, and receives the royalties on licensing the patents.

It's insane that the taxpayers fund them out of the Treasury with ten cents, let alone Billions.

My wife is a Chemical Engineer and she has seen dozens of company R&D labs just abandoned in favor of university researchers managing free labor grad students to do the R&D.

When you get billions of dollars of government funding, you are not a private institution.

The Ivy League law school mafia infests every judicial circuit and will be hard for Trump to break on this one.

I may be dumb, but not stupid...

Harvard University acts like a “business” so why should they be “tax-exempt”?
