AMD has announced that its key processor chips will soon be produced at TSMC’s new facility in Arizona, marking the first time AMD’s products will be manufactured in the United States. The news comes on the heels of AI giant Nvidia announcing it will produce AI chips and supercomputers in Arizona and Texas.
Reuters reports that AMD CEO Lisa Su revealed that the company’s fifth-generation EPYC CPUs for data centers will be manufactured at TSMC’s Arizona plant. This decision comes amidst growing concerns over the U.S.-China trade tensions and the potential impact of tariffs on the semiconductor industry.
The Trump administration’s investigation into whether semiconductor imports threaten national security has heightened the importance of such initiatives. The potential imposition of tariffs on these products has prompted tech companies to reevaluate their supply chains and explore alternative manufacturing locations.

But, but, but tariffs are bad or something
Exactly.
I pray and pray for Trump and his team everyday. Good stuff will come
With the exception of a small fab in Israel and one in Ireland, Intel has fabricated in the USA for 30 years.
Too bad they hooked their star to the Obama Admin and DEI
Nvidia made a similar announcement a day or two ago.
A big win here. A big win there. Pretty soon these all start adding up to making America Great Again.
AMD is the New Intel
It’s a Total washout for Investors
Moar winning!
Rand fans, FReepers having constant cows over tariffs, RINOs and Liberals are all depressed.
Why didn’t TSMC open up locations outside Taiwan long ago?
They’re sitting ducks to be taken over by mainland China and are the biggest target on the island for takeover.
It seems like they could have manufacturing plants around the world in case they have to make a quick departure from Taiwan.
So true.
Intel has lost it’s way and lost it’s edge and it seems to have started back in the Obama Era when Intel focused more on politics than excellence.
If they don’t move fast they are going to miss a building wave and may never catch up.
In the chip biz the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And you can get poor really fast.
It was a great company and can be so again... Boeing dumped the DEI folks and they're coming back. Intel needs to make the larger chips - it's the future for the US - they should be back in the game.
If there’s war with China on any level they can knock out our high tech industry ... we get our big chips from that region.
This headline is terribly misleading “for the first time ever”.
AMD has owned numerous fabs, several of them located in Texas. (fabs 14, 15, and 25)

From a local news paper, 28 Feb 2025, Intel delays $28 BILLION Ohio chip factory in New Albany again, to 2030 or 2031.
This albatross was scheduled to start operations in 2025. This crap makes it hard to believe ANY PROMISES major corporations make.
They buy their wafers from Global Foundries located in Malta (upstate town) NY. AMD spun off global foundries.

"America Winning: Nvidia to Invest $500 Billion to Build AI Chips and Supercomputers in Texas.
Years ago (late 70’s early 80’s) the semiconductor industry experienced a severe downturn. The fab Intel was building in Albuquerque became a money sink so they halted construction. The point is situations change. Andy Grove used to say that a ‘wrong’ decision can be changed. Analysis paralysis cannot.
The current lithography tools costs something like $300 million. Manufacturers tend to revisit decisions. Once in a while decisions need to change.
“Why didn’t TSMC open up locations outside Taiwan long ago?”
because the Dutch manufacture their fabs and are slow.
because we didn’t care
btw Mass production of these chips is expected within 12–15 months.
