Woke officials in Maryland called the police when a Baltimore County high school student asked why there were no American flags on display in classrooms.
Parker Jensen, a senior at Towson High School and an aspiring U.S. Marine, was suspended for seven days over the “incident.”
Jensen and his family have now filed a lawsuit over the punishment, citing what he believes to be a violation of state education policy and his constitutional rights.
The teen came under fire after he visited the Baltimore County Board of Education to inquire about the lack of patriotic flags in school classrooms.
However, Jensen’s inquiries triggered outrage from the board’s woke officials.
Jensen’s visit resulted in the police being called to the scene, according to a report by WBFF-TV.
The outlet reported that three police officers responded to the school board headquarters.
Video footage aired by WBFF shows Jensen at the school board building, speaking with Richard Muth.
Muth is the Baltimore County Public Schools Emergency Manager for School Safety.
...
Jensen’s suspension stemmed from his attempt to speak with school officials about their compliance with the Maryland Education Code and Baltimore County Public Schools policy.
Both policies mandate that the United States flag be displayed in every classroom.
“I just wanted to know why the flag wasn’t in our classrooms,” Jensen told WBFF.
“Patriotism has always been a big thing of mine.”
...
Jensen’s attorney, Sarah Spitalnick, is representing him in the lawsuit.
Spitalnick is arguing that her client’s constitutional rights were violated by the school district’s actions.
“He was summarily suspended without any due process whatsoever,” Spitalnick said.
The lawsuit seeks to have the suspension vacated and requests monetary damages.
The school district has not commented on the pending legal action.
According to the WBFF report, American flags were reinstalled in classrooms by April 1.
The flags were restored after the incident with Jensen drew public attention.
However, Spitalnick says that doesn’t undo the harm caused by the disciplinary action against her client.
...
Jensen’s case has raised questions about how school administrators handle student concerns and whether district responses are aligned with legal requirements and constitutional protections.
Maryland’s education code explicitly states that “each classroom shall display the United States flag,” a provision that Jensen sought to see enforced.
Instead of receiving answers from school officials, his efforts reportedly led to a disciplinary response and police involvement.
The incident has sparked broader discussion surrounding the role of patriotism in public education and the policies in place for addressing student-initiated concerns.
While the lawsuit moves forward, school officials have not publicly explained why flags were initially missing from classrooms or why a student inquiry prompted a police response.
Jensen said he was simply advocating for something he believed to be both legally required and symbolically important.
There's a whole lot left to imagine about this sentence that any reasonable reporter should have expanded upon.
Sue the crap out of them... wait. i live in Maryland. d’oh!
They need to re-woke the “school officials” and take them off to jail. They have American Flags in schools to remind the little orphaned “villagers” that the U.S. Taxpayers are paying for their education and they need to keep their asses at their desks and not out carrying goofy signs for their massas in the DNC.
Until each and every school official is put on the spot, the feeling that they are untouchable by student and parents alike. The question could have been about special needs students getting the additional time they need, and if asked by a conservative target the response would be the same.
Just this student, this rule and this reaction, is perfect for a case to go up through the state courts.
>>Maryland’s education code explicitly states that “each classroom shall display the United States flag,” a provision that Jensen sought to see enforced.
And what is the penalty for violating that code?
Sue the officials..................
I want those lawbreakers in jail and their assets turned over to the defendant.
The kid shoulda called the cops comp.aing about being false accusations a d possible false arrest
“Until each and every school official is put on the spot, the feeling that they are untouchable by student and parents alike.”
They are beyond reasoning with. They just need to to beaten publicly, then have their citizenship revoked and forced to immigrant to some place else.
I’d be very interested to see a picture of those commies. And their biographies. I just cannot fathom how a country with our history has allowed this trash to seize control of this country.
Just don’t ask Pam Bondi to prosecute. Another all bark and no bite Attorney General.
the officials always pass the cost onto the backs of the taxpayers... ugh
This is what the 1st Amendment is all about... the government arresting you for challenging them. It’s not about a right to be called by your correct pronouns.
What was the school’s supposed excuse for calling police and suspending him? I can’t believe they admitted it was for asking about the flag.
Or you could watch the linked video the report was based on...ymmv
“Just don’t ask Pam Bondi to prosecute. Another all bark and no bite Attorney General.”
Get over it. Gaetz pulled out.
Did I miss it in my readings of this does it anywhere mention whether or not the school board responded to the student’s question and why the police were called and the student summarily suspended?
I am certain many classrooms in Maryland schools have rainbow flags extolling the LGBQ etc. crowd and I would not be surprised to find BLM and Palestinian flags in a few classrooms.
