Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) on Monday introduced legislation that would sell off millions of dollars of the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) firearms to pay for the national debt.
As America approaches Tax Day on Tuesday, Ernst introduced the Why Does the IRS Needs Guns Act to reform how the agency handles firearms. The Iowa senator introduced the legislation after reports from Open the Books have suggested the IRS would one of the top 50 largest police departments based on its headcount and stockpiling of firearms and ammunition.
“Why is the IRS wasting millions of our tax dollars stockpiling guns and ammo?” Ernst asked rhetorically in a written statement.
She continued, “This is especially concerning, given the history of partisan witch hunts within the agency, and the fact it is more common for IRS agents to accidentally fire their weapon, than to do so intentionally. I am selling off the agency’s firearms, using the proceeds to pay down the bloated national debt, and recommending firearm safety courses for these tax collectors.”
“Since 2006, the IRS spent $35.2 million on guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment (CPI adjusted). The years 2020 and 2021 were peak years at the IRS for purchasing weaponry and gear. Just since the pandemic started, the IRS has purchased $10 million in weaponry and gear,” Open the Books wrote.
Since 2020, the IRS has spent at least $10 million on firearms and ammunition for its roughly 2,100 special agents.

Gotta like that title.
👍🏻
Probably not the kind of "fire arms" Trump protestor Maxwell Azzarello had when he set himself ablaze last year. LOL
I could use a sky mount .50 Cal for my Genesis...
AI says:
The standard issue handgun is the Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol (Models 22, 23, and 27), according to a report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). They also handle semi-automatic rifles, such as the Smith & Wesson M&P15, and may have access to shotguns like the Remington 870.
I’d say military grade.
Brilliant!
Sounds like a list that most people could use.
Any MP5s?
When the Democrats thought they were on the cusp of installation of the Democrat Total State they were rapidly building multiple paramilitary forces as all totalist systems do. USSR had two separate Armies and the NKVD/KGB and armed “militias.” Leftists and totalists generally do not trust the normal Armed Forces of their countries and construct backuups in case the military takes a notion to take over which is feared.
They should also sell off the firearms and body armor in the Department of Education, Small Business Administration, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
And the stockpiles of hollow-point ammo in the Bureau of Fiscal Service.
I’d like a couple military M1911A1s.
LOL!
“Paying off the ($40 Trillion) National Debt” by selling off a few million $$$ worth of firearms? I guess she means well, but that’s less than a drop in a bucket; even less than a spit into the oceans. But I think it’s a good idea just to get that fire power OUT of the hands of the haters at the IRS!
Probably. The D of Ed and the USDA could probably be disarmed, as well. Clearly they won’t be sending in the SWAT team to collect on student loan defaults.
Now who was it that said he wanted another military as well funded as the US Armed Forces?
That Kenyan dude???
What I'd really like to see is the Fed selling off all that ammo they've been hoarding.
Mexican gangs need weapons.
One would think (?) enforcement duties would/could be coordinated with FBI or us Marshall’s device and not need armed irs agents. One could also forget about the little fiefdoms set up by certain folks.
This is the “smoking gun” (pun intended) that proves the Trump administration is fascist. They are literally taking guns from a government bureaucracy for citizens to oppose anarcho-tyranny or even worse, possibly fund another possible insurrection. /S
