The Spanish family of five - including three children - killed on a tour helicopter that crashed into New York City's Hudson River have been identified.

Agustín Escobar, the president of the Spanish branch of the technology company Siemens, and his wife and three children were killed in the crash, the New York Times reported.

Heartbreaking photos showed the family posing on the helipad and inside the aircraft before the crash.

The family had arrived in the Big Apple from Barcelona earlier in the day, law enforcement sources told the New York Post.

Escobar was appointed to serve as the CEO of Siemens in Spain in 2022 after previously serving as the CEO of Siemens Mobility Spain.

He also held various positions in Spain between 1998 and 2010, primarily in the energy sector. Additionally, Escobar served as the vice president of the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain.

The terrifying crash took place at around 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, closer to the New Jersey side of the Hudson River just off the tip of Lower Manhattan.

Witnesses said they saw the chopper 'split in half' before it went down near Pier 40, with one man reporting the stricken aircraft making what sounded like a 'sonic boom.'

The aircraft was operated by New York Helicopter, a local tour company. The chopper appeared to be a N216MH - a Bell 206L-4, according to Flight Radar.

The helicopter flew for approximately 16 minutes before going down into the water. It took off from the Wall Street Heliport and did a circle near the Statue of Liberty before flying up the Hudson River to the George Washington Bridge at about 1000 feet.

In the video, you see the entire tail boom is gone and the main rotor blades are fluttering down in the air over the crash site.

What a horrific way to go. I can’t imagine those few seconds when you know you are done for.

Shame on whichever bastard at the helicopter company sold to the Daily Mail the smiling pics of this poor doomed family. Tacky move.

They got his job wrong. He isn’t president of Siemens Spain, but “CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility.” If you glance at his LinkedIn, it looked like a really cool jobs, especially if you are a lifelong geeky engineer type who loves trains, as do I. Smiling in every picture. Very, very sad. RIP.

The “Jesus Nut” came off.............

The “Jesus nut” in helicopters is a slang term for the main rotor retaining nut, also known as the mast nut. It secures the helicopter’s main rotor to the rotor mast, and its failure would cause the rotor to detach, leading to a potentially fatal situation, hence the term.

Helicopters must be a lot more dangerous than airplanes.

Kobe Bryant is just one of many, including these six, who’ve died in helicopter crashes.

The father of one of the kids in my grade school also died in a helicopter crash in Vietnam.

Yeah...we had some a-holes in town that were making them for the FedGov. Used sub-spec steel and made a lot of money. And then, they were caught.

A guy I know that survived (barely) a helicopter crash in the Army said that the problem with helicopters is sometimes they fly, then they don’t.

Helicopters have always been dangerous. Unlike an airplane, they have zero gliding capability.

It has been said that you do not ‘fly’ a helicopter, you keep it from crashing until you land........................

I heard he may have been doing some show-boating. Nobody flies s helicopter well, when it starts going to pieces.

Kobe Bryant’s helicopter flew into a hillside in foggy conditions, IIRC, PILOT ERROR.

Another similar crash was the one that killed Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1990. a renowned blues guitarist, was killed in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990, near East Troy, Wisconsin.

Vaughan, who was 35 at the time, was returning from a concert where he performed with Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre.

After the concert, Vaughan boarded a helicopter with three members of Clapton’s entourage, but the aircraft crashed into a ski slope shortly after takeoff, killing all five people on board.
