It was imperative to get the administration’s tariff communications aligned, Bessent told Trump, and more focused on the endgame for Americans: better trade deals with foreign nations, according to people familiar with the conversation.

Looks like a lot of countries are willing to go to no tariff. Looks like maybe even the EU. Man, I remember the run-around the EU gave both Obama and Trump (during his first term).
Whatever you think about tariffs or about Trump's style of bargaining, Donald Trump is a man on a mission. A whirlwind. This could be a big win for free trade; or, a real disaster.
Tariffs are here to stay at some level, that’s how you reindustrialize and keep your industry, it’s also how you replace the income tax.
Bessent needs to shut up and obey Trump.
1. Tariffs against low-wage countries can have the result of getting companies that would have manufactured in those countries to manufacture in America instead.
2. Tariffs against high-wage countries can have the result of getting those countries to lower their tariffs and ideally result in a zero tariffs trade relationship with those countries.
I think both are true. Raise rates on China. Low rates on our friends and allies. Eventually.
What’s the point of the CNN article?
Bessent and Trump have achieved miraculous things today. This must really piss off the enemedia.
The in-between period needs to be addressed:
If America is dependent on Product A from Country 1, and a tariff is placed on Product A from Country 1, then Americans will be paying more for Product A until a deal is made that ends the tariff or an alternative source of Product A is in place.
That in-between period can cost elections.
That doesn’t mean don’t do tariffs.
It does mean that the in-between period has to be addressed, say by a refundable tax credit for all American citizens this year and next year, so that it doesn’t cost elections.
>> Bessent needs to shut up and obey Trump.
“...according to people familiar with the conversation.”
Consider perhaps not believing every made-up assertion that issues from the four or five progressive authors of each MSM agitprop piece.
For the moment Dow futures are up 730points. We’ll see in the morning.
friends and allies? Who are they?
Put a sock in it Sparky Noob.🤡
Trump 🇺🇸
friends and allies, no such thing.
Tucker’s interview with Sec Bessent explains it all very logically.
Product A is available from many countries.
Never believe anything CNN has to say at face value.
All they are trying to do here is drive a wedge between President Trump and Secretary Bessent.
I never believe a word CNN says, soooo..
“ Consider perhaps not believing every made-up assertion that issues from the four or five progressive authors of each MSM agitprop piece.”

Thank you. OUR folks need to be more attuned to THEIR tricks and attempts to manipulate, IMHO.

On FNC’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” White House senior economic counselor Peter Navarro explained the long-term implications for the Trump administration’s tariffs and how they will function to ensure fair trade for the United States.
“Let’s not forget, every economic report that’s been coming out in the last month has been pushing us towards expansion and strength,” Navarro said. “And we just had a blowout jobs number on Friday, 228,000 jobs. That was 50 percent higher than was predicted.”
“There’s cognitive dissonance between what the media is saying, that Pres Trump wants to push us into recession, and what’s actually happening. The tariff and trade policy is just one chapter in a book that contains all these other beautiful things that we’re going to do. If you just take, for example, the oil prices, oil prices were a dollar higher during the Biden years. For a commuting, working family, that’s about $1,000 worth of gas prices they had to pay. We’re going to get that back for them.”
“Tariff revenues, $600 billion, $700 billion annually, are going to raise $6 trillion to $7 trillion over the 10-year period. They’re going to help pay for the tax cuts. I will tell you this. Every single dollar that comes in, in tariff revenues that we take from the foreigners who have been cheating us are going to go right to the American public in terms of tax cuts and debt reduction.”
From where I sit, I think it unwise to 2nd guess Trump, but then what do I know? When I keep hearing how this, that and the other things are something we’ve never seen before, I hesitate to pass judgement.
