Germany has embarked on its first permanent foreign deployment since World War II, with the nation's parliament approving the dispatch of troops to eastern Lithuania, along NATO's eastern boundary.
This marks a historic moment for Germany, as it will be the inaugural occasion of a continuous German military presence overseas since the Second World War.
The full operational capability of the unit is expected by 2027. Brigadier General Christoph Huber, who leads the brigade, stated, "We have a clear mission. We have to ensure the protection, freedom and security of our Lithuanian allies here on NATO's eastern flank."
While Germany has previously sent troops to Afghanistan as part of international coalitions, those forces were never stationed there indefinitely.
The newly formed 45th Armored Brigade, which boasts about 5,000 service members, will call the eastern portion of the country home. The brigade was officially instated at an activation ceremony near Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, with a provisional command post already in place.

Somewhere in Hell, Hitler is smiling.
“When Germany avoids showing military force, people whine about Germany wanting the U.S. to do its fighting for it.
But when Germany shows military force, people snark about Germany reverting to its old ways.”
Either way it’s true.
Königsberg is actually more German than anything else. The Russians shouldn’t even be there, imo.
This looks more like the Nazi's are putting the band back together.
Keep an eye on any radio stations along the border.
That’s the game the EU might end up playing.
NATO’s plan is a 30-year war/money laundering operation, at the end of which Russia is bankrupt and gets broken into five pieces.
They are counting on the country that has the most nuclear weapons on Earth submitting to defeat rather than using them.
Nuclear Russian Roulette for fun and profit.
Evidently NATO considers Mutually Assured Destruction to be a feature, not a bug.
They actually shipped all the Germans out of there in the late 40s. It’s just a Russian ghetto now.
Get out of NATO now!
Make it crystal clear that we will not get pulled into a war started by any of the NATO countries.
That’s a tough question my ancestry is German I guess the current government in Germany does not allow home schooling of children for starters.
Then you get to the deliberate efforts to suppress political opposition forces like the Alternative for Germany.
And the list goes on.
20 percent tariffs is one way to wage war against this.
Anyone calling themselves Conservative, Christian or Constitutional catch phrases when I grew up and lived my adult life can rightly despise Germany for what it is today.
its 150 troops with 500 by years end. By 2027 they hope to have 5000 there.
# 12: But Germany’s Deep State still refuses to institute a draft.
# 21: Somewhere in Hell, Hitler is smiling.
You complain of German pacifism, and German militarism, on the same thread.
Well, NATO nations lost the proxy war against Russia. Throughout the Ukrainian war, NATO worked to provoke Russia and to get the US involved directly (they want US vs Russia). NATO nations have to plan another way to get WWIII going. Maybe they plan to annex Kalinengrad to provoke Russia.
This looks more like the Nazi's are putting the band back together.
NATO is calling the shots. Germany is merely obeying. And this wouldn't occur without Lithuania's compliance. So I wouldn't blame this on German "Nazis."
Germany is a humanistic socialistic state departed far from traditional values that we hope to restore in this country.
Russia has more traditional values and a little less democracy but Germany’s suppression of the AfD demonstrates its moving away from democratic elections.
I think the political issue might be the 1941 German surprise attack on Russia, which killed at least 20 million Russian soldiers and civilians.
Obviously, Germany is no longer the same country, but the USA would definitely notice if China, North Korea, Japan, or Viet Nam, deployed soldiers to the USA-Mexican border.
Too bad for those four US soldiers that just lost their lives there the Germans didn’t show up sooner.
The difference is the current Bundeswehr couldn’t beat a girl scout troop. It is a far cry from the Third Reich’s mighty Wehrmacht.
Though I think the cause foolish, I’d be happy to see the Germans finally grow a spine. But they have a long way to go before anybody views their military as anything but a complete joke. It will take years and gigantic increases in funding for them to be taken seriously.
