Mike Waltz Is Losing Support Inside the White House
The Wall Street Journal ^ | March 30, 2025 | Alexander Ward, Josh Dawsey, Meridith McGrawq

Despite repeated messages of support by Trump, Waltz has lost sway with the president and the backing of senior aides within the White House, officials said, just as the administration struggles to broker peace deals and faces the threat of further war in the Middle East.

For Trump, Waltz’s biggest sin wasn’t starting a Signal chat to coordinate strikes on the Houthis in Yemen, or even posting Israel-provided intelligence onto an unclassified network, it was having the Atlantic magazine’s editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg’s number in his phone and inadvertently adding him to the conversation.

Trump’s anger spilled over into many private discussions last week, including multiple calls with allies in which he unloaded expletives and blamed Waltz for the administration’s first big national security crisis. Trump spoke to Vice President JD Vance, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles about whether Waltz should be dismissed.

But on Thursday, Trump let Waltz know in a one-on-one meeting that the national security adviser would keep his job. Trump decided to give Waltz a reprieve during that discussion. He didn’t want the media and Democrats to claim a scalp so early in his second administration, according to people close to Trump, as that would admit wrongdoing.

Even before the most recent episode, Waltz had annoyed many of his colleagues by seeming imperious and expressing views that were out of line with Trump’s agenda, two administration officials said.

Some administration officials also began circulating clips on Friday of Waltz making particularly critical comments of Trump in the past. One was a 2016 video of Waltz criticizing Trump for not serving in the Vietnam War and urging voters to “stop Trump now.”

“All this has reminded everybody of those facts,” said a senior administration official, “and those were things that were best conveniently forgotten.”

Even considering the source, one is inclined to believe this.

LL has been totally all over it and has brought all the receipts. Honestly frankly it's the sort of mess that Trump's COS should have intercepted if she (oops) had been vetting people. It's really that bad.

Sure would like some specifics on those views.

If Waltz ends up Waltzing into the sunset, that would be a GREAT IMPROVEMENT for Trump’s team as Waltz has now proven he’s a Deep State / Media mole and he has always drank the Neocon Koolaid. Would be GREAT to see the back of him.

Keep him busy with a long trip to the Middle East.

Fire him over the Memorial Day weekend.

Mike Waltz may or may not be a Zeeper, but he is at least a Zeeper sympathizer. That alone should disqualify him from the Trump team.

I’ve been saying, someone has to be a fall guy. Not sure it will be Walz, but someone is going to be fired.

” it was having the Atlantic magazine’s editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg’s number in his phone”

That IS a problem. And Waltz is a historic war hawk neocon.
Not -completely- trustworthy.

If the WSJ says something, I have a real hard time putting a lot of stock in it. They are almost as bad as the NYT.

Trump’s Chief of Staff. That’s Ms Susie Wiles, right?
There was so much lavish praise being heaped upon Susie, at the start of this administration. “Nothing gets by Susie! Trump listens to Susie!”.

And very soon, several of undiplomatic, inconvenient quotes by Elon Musk and others were being heard about in the news.
I began wondering, just how powerful or influential was this Ms Wiles, anyway? I still don’t really know.

It is possible that those ‘undiplomatic quotes’ by a few members on the Trump Team were lobbed out on purpose, with Trump’s knowledge and full approval. Trump himself knows how to use the media directly and indirectly as needed.

**This may go under the category of “Known Unknowns”, as said by the late Donald Rumsfeldt.
