brand new Russian nuclear submarine during visit an Arctic naval base yesterday.
Speaking to submariners, Putin smugly declared: 'Not long ago I said we'd grind [Ukraine] down — now it looks like we'll finish them off.
He also mocked the state of the British economy and armed forces after Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron revealed yesterday they would deploy an Anglo-French 'reassurance force' to Ukraine following a ceasefire deal.
'[Britain] is jumping on us, behaving aggressively... but their economy is, I think, in the ninth or tenth place in the world,' the Russian President smirked.
'Hence the armed forces - what is it, 170,000 or 180,000? That's all the armed forces of the UK!'
Putin's statement on the UK economy is accurate in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP), which takes into account a nation's economy relative to the cost of local goods and services.
But in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) - the total value of all goods and services produced - Britain is the sixth largest economy in the world while Russia languishes in 11th place.
In any case, the Kremlin chief's comments reflect his growing confidence in the fate of his war in Ukraine, not least because the United States - previously one of Kyiv's most consequential allies - is now holding Volodymyr Zelensky over a barrel.
The latest version of President Donald Trump's much-touted minerals deal, initially framed as a way for Ukraine to obtain security guarantees from Washington, has been described by experts as 'an expropriation document' and likened to 'holding a gun' to Zelensky's head.
Professor Alan Riley, an expert on energy law at the Atlantic Council, said the deal was unlike anything he had ever seen before after being shown a copy of the latest text by the Telegraph.

We thought we were going to get it back...Zelensky laughed in Trump’s face....
Posturing
Russkies just launched a new nuclear submarine. When did we most recently launch one?
“The latest launch of a nuclear submarine by the United States occurred on August 15, 2024, when the USS Idaho (SSN 799), a Virginia-class attack submarine, was launched from General Dynamics Electric Boat’s shipyard into the Thames River. The Virginia-class is the newest class of nuclear-powered fast attack submarines in service with the U.S. Navy, designed for a broad spectrum of open-ocean and littoral missions.”
The sub in question is Yasen class, designed to deploy hypersonics.
Virginia class attack boats do not have hypersonics, and probably will not for many years.
You are correct , 7 months ago was so long ago, by your post.
As I understand both countries have about the same number, but with ~20 being diesel-electric for Russia.
Mind you diesel subs can have a place, can run very silent, but range is more limited.
Knowing the condition of all of them would be interesting
Atlantic is out. Arctic is in.
The US Navy plans to build 72 submarines over 30 years, aiming to increase production from 2 to 5 submarines per year by 2028, including Columbia, Virginia, Virginia Block V, and SSN(X) classes.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Long-Term Goal:
The U.S. Navy’s 30-year shipbuilding plan, approved in the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, aims to procure 72 submarines.
USS Iowa slated for launch April 5 2025
Zelensky’s antics in the Oval Office and since are likely to blame.
If Putin sees Vance’s visit to Greenland as “hositile” that reveals the real reason why Greenland is important strategically.
Get it done already.
I believe there are 7 subs in the making...which take about 4 years ea..
wiki has a list of those in the making..Google Electric Bolt.
"Hence the armed forces - what is it, 170,000 or 180,000? That's all the armed forces of the UK!'"
Remember when Britain was the richest most powerful nation on earth, when Britannia ruled the waves?
If the Brits and the rest of the Europeans have functioning brains, they will encourage America's presence in Greenland and Ukraine and will welcome Trump as their de facto if not de jure leader.
Far better America than Russia dominating the Arctic!
Far better Trump than Putin!
Nice chart.
But, doesn’t $100 BILLION of the $28 BILLION Ukraine has for defense actually belong to American Taxpayers?
Where’s the other $72 BILLION, Z?
Where’s the other $72 BILLION, Brandon?
*SPIT*
Probably the usual "pick and choose" that the media shoves in our face.
I'll take a wait and see.
Modern diesel subs are excellent for defense purposes. Extremely quiet. Much much cheaper than nukes.
(1) Putin vows to 'finish off' Ukraine and (2) mocks Britain for its economy as he boards (3) nuclear submarine in Arctic (4) during Vance's 'hostile' visit to GreenlandThe "talking smack" stuff is not something we haven't seen before, but Greenland-Vance fits how?
When one considers media -- our legacy companies, other non--Western press, and specifically the British press, it surely seems that the British press is working over time to be upset and get others to be upset. In keeping, of course, with the aims of the UK government's goals.
Yup, the Ukraine-Russia war is tragic. Yup, Putin and Zelensky are sad, when not downright comical. But what seems accurate is that the media of the faded "empire" is working hard to be relevant.
Charles is being treated for cancer. The Brits might do well to treat their press with something.... And not a heftier dose of Keir Starmer.
They destroyed their best people in WW1, then destroyed their economy with socialism and unrestricted immigration after WW2.
It’s a real shame.
