According to the Russian top diplomat, although "Trump's entire foreign policy is guided by national interests," the US president understands that other countries, "especially the great powers," also have their own interests
MOSCOW, March 25. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump gained invaluable experience during his first presidential term regarding the importance of choosing his inner circle, as relations between Washington and Moscow soured back then due to a hodgepodge of "random" people being in his ear, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.
"I believe that he [US President Trump] gained invaluable experience during his first term in office. First of all, with regard to the importance of choosing his own team. Relations deteriorated mainly because Trump was surrounded by random people during his first presidential term," Lavrov said in an interview with Russia’s Channel One.
According to Lavrov, although "Trump's entire foreign policy is guided by national interests," the US president understands that other countries, "especially the great powers," also have their own interests.
Russia’s top diplomat noted that these interests don’t always align with each other, but in rare cases when they coincide, "it would be criminal not to use this coincidence to leverage it into some mutually beneficial, joint material projects in the spheres of economy, energy, infrastructure, logistics."
"When these interests do not coincide, and in most cases they do not, responsible powers are obliged to do everything necessary to prevent these differences from turning into confrontation. Especially a heated confrontation," he stressed.
"We have opted to support such an approach. I believe that these are the principles on which relations with all countries should be built," Lavrov added.

“the US president understands that other countries, “especially the great powers,” also have their own interests”
Russia is not a great power. It is a third world style kleptocracy that is gas station to the world. All Russian wealth, oligarchs and elites are in Moscow and St Petersburg. The rest of Russia is a hole, especially the rural areas with muddy rutted roads and outhouses.
It is a great power. France and UK are third world countries, not Russia.
Trump gives the illusion - but where the rubber meets the road - Trump listens to himself.
“...relations between Washington and Moscow soured back then due to a hodgepodge of “random” people being in his ear”...
A lot of things soured because of the Morons who surrounded Trump in his first Admin. Trump 2.0 seems orders of magnitude better than Trump 1.0.
You are so rabidly anti Russian that your brain fell out. By any rational measure Russia is a great power.
Your comment reads like it came from the Thanksgiving kiddie table.
“France and UK are third world countries, not Russia.”
Laughable nonsense
1. First country to go to space.
2. First country to send humans to space,
3. First country to send satellites to space (SPUTNIK).
4. Currently with 6,000 nuclear weapons, the biggest on the planet.
Etc etc.
Lavrov can shove it up his ass.... So you have nukes, very little else works. The vast majority of Russians are good hard working people who just want to go about their lives it’s the elite scum who are holding them back. Except for Putin and his klepto Mafia the people of Russia and and most Americans are natural allies.
Riiiight...lol
France, UK & Germany are infested with 3rd world Muslims, not Russia.
Russia is far more Christian than Europe and North America. In Russia they don’t mutilate children for sex change operations.

‘Relations deteriorated mainly because Trump was surrounded by random people during his first presidential term’
That was 8 years ago!
That was the USSR. And we beat them to 5h3 Moon, and then Reagan destroyed them.
Does anyone know if we are still paying for that war? Any reports on the status of ending it?
Or are we going to be disappointed?
The Russian federation has not been a great power during its existence. The USSR, yes. The Tsarist empire, yes.
Most of the federation outside Moscow and Petrograd are at India levels. So a developing level.
It could have been much better if Putin and his cliche hadn’t robbed the country since 1999
