ACWORTH, Ga. - Acworth police have arrested a man accused of trying to snatch a child away from their mother at a Walmart.
What we know: It happened on March 18 at the store located at 3105 Cobb Parkway.
Acworth detectives used surveillance and FLOCK cameras to track the suspect down.
Three days later, 56-year-old Mahendra Patel of Kennesaw was arrested and charged with simple assault (misdemeanor), simple battery (misdemeanor) and kidnapping (felony).
Patel is being held in the Cobb County Sheriff's Office without bond.

Years ago parents could let their children go to the toy aisle while they completed their shopping list. Parents can no longer do that. Heck, now the perverts will try to take a child from your arms.
Keep your children very close when shopping.
Patel? The guy shoud’ve bought a lot at Glengary Glenross.
In general, you cannot be guilty of kidnapping your own child.
Clearly, we need more H1-B visas.
I didn’t see anything in the story about it being his own child.
Years ago you could let your child play outside without supervision.
Maybe he just likes talking to policemen.
Yet I think I remember reading that an illegal immigrant charged with 3 instances of raping a child was let out on $5,000 bail. Can’t remember what state that was in, but I read it in an article trying to debunk Tom Homan’s comment about the state letting violent illegal immigrants go free. Instead, the examples they gave confirmed that the state WAS using really low bail amounts to let violent criminals go free and evade ICE and/or deportation.
I recently watched this again. Baldwin cameo gets all the attention, but really Jack Lemmon is incredible - he just has a range of highs and lows. Peak closing the deal and desperation. Pacino (ricky roma) and Kaiser Soze are great supporting actors. Same for Ed Harris and Arkin - what a lineup.
Walmarts and convenience marts are the most dangerous places in America at least outside of the third world urban s***holes.
The silver lining is that most have HD CCTV.
In March 2024, Mamet stated that he is currently writing a screenplay centering about Hunter Biden, the second son of U.S. President Joe Biden.
Get a rope.
If you do not have custody, you certainly can be.
And there is nothing in the story to indicate that this was "his child".
If you have some kind of inside information about creepy dude who grabs children, lay it on us.
I’m 69 years old.
I used to go and play just about
anywhere I wanted as a kid, in South East Los Angeles county.
But I was also taught and encouraged to fight any
threats and run in and through places you would not believe.
I could fight plus evade very well.
Kids today aren’t taught that authority figures are not to be trusted. You had to earn trust.
Authority had to be respected, eg. a cop with a badge.
But not trusted.
Not knowing if it was his child or not is confusing. But my assertion is true under natural law.
Indeed. It’s a great movie. Lemmon is fantastic in that role but as you said so is the entire cast. I’m a big fan of all of David Mamet’s works.
Besides his plays/films he’s written some great non-fiction books too.
There’s a wonderful interview of him with Peter Robinson on Uncommon Knowledge you can find on YT. He gets quite a bit political and religious on that one. He’s based. Not a Hollywood/ Broadway leftist.
For thousands of years, in most cultures, the father owned the mother and the child. We only have become enlightened recently.
I’m a mile and a half from there and it’s the good part of Acworth, “crackworth” is a couple miles down the road. The area has been inundated with apartments so there are a ton more lower income folks milling about. A road rage incident where a guy got killed was literally 200 yards from my house across from a middle school. Crime is on the uptick here and come May I’m an empty nester so we’ll get out of Cobb. I’m done with neighbors.
