While Greenpeace denied it played more than a peripheral role in the 2016 protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline, the pipeline owner claimed the group organized a campaign of misinformation and direct training to the protesters...
ANorth Dakota jury on Wednesday found Greenpeace liable for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages over its role in months-long protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline in 2016 and 2017.
After two days of deliberation, the New York Times reported, the jury returned the verdict. Energy Transfer, the owner and operator of the pipeline, filed the lawsuit in North Dakota state court against Greenpeace and Red Warrior Camp, which Energy Transfer claimed was a front for Greenpeace, and three individuals.
The lawsuit alleges that Greenpeace had engaged in a misinformation campaign with mass emails falsely claiming that the Dakota Access Pipeline would cross the sovereign land of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. In court filings, Energy Transfer claimed protesters engaged in a campaign of “militant direct action,” including trespassing on the company’s property, vandalizing construction equipment, and assaulting employees and contractors.
In testimony at the trial, Greenpeace maintained that it played only a minor role in what were protests led by indigenous groups. The organization argues, CNN reported, that the lawsuit is an effort on the part of the company to violate Greenpeace’s free speech rights.
“This is a test on our First Amendment rights during a very, very dangerous time in this country’s history,” Deepa Padmanabha, senior legal advisor for Greenpeace USA, told CNN. Padmanabha told the Associated Press, when asked if Greenpeace plans to appeal, that "this fight is not over."
Sue Greenpeace for every single cent they have.
I wonder why they do not give a more accurate figure beyond: ‘hundreds of millions’
Now, on to the Civil Liberties cabal...
Greenpeace has acted much like a low-level domestic terrorist organization for several years, as shown with this lawsuit.
What is so bizarre is a pipeline is the safest way to transport oil in existence. It is much safer than trucks, trains, or even ships.
has nothing to do with safely moving anything, except shake-down funds into their pockets.
But wait …. there’s a penalty flag on the field.
Case transferred to 9’th circuit where the jury finding will be nullified
and greenpeace will recover all their court costs trebled.
FNC just reported the value at $660M.
Tulsi Gabbard was protesting with them.
I knew of a liberal retired from academia Kansas veterinarian that went up there to protest and took supplies for the protesters. We had a “falling out” over his support of the event. Ironically the protesters left such a mess it took thousands of dollars to clean the area up. Greenpeace and other liberal cabals need to be slapped silly for their misguided efforts. Most of them are just covers for money laundering.
Reminds me of a story about the Grateful Dead concert in Georgia. The local Sheriff had been quoted about "those damn hippies in our town." What the Sheriff didn't know was we used to bring LARGE garbage bags to pick up up after ourselves, and pick up anything someone else had left.
After we had cleaned it all up, the Sheriff actually made a statement close to: "Dang! Those hippies left this place cleaner than they found it. They are welcome back any time!"
Teaching people domestic terrorism techniques is not free speech.
She’s seen the light!
At one point some of the hard core leftists talked about threating the wives and children of law enforcement officers in the area. They must have been from one of the left coasts. They had no idea that the wives and kids over 14 know how to use all types of firearms. Those leftists that tried to carry out such threats would have been going home to mommy and daddy in body bags.
I believe the French just sunk their boats in years past. Domestic terrorists deserve military response
And how is it transported to OK now? On a railroad owned in part by Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway.
I looked for stories to see if he supports Greenpeace but I did not find any.
In general, the organizations such as Greenpeace are aimed at the United States, or, sometimes, other Western nations.
In effect they transfer money and power to other nations.
The net effect is to weaken the USA and to prop up nations which see the USA as an enemy. This primarily benefits China.
wasn’t there an article recently saying they are broke?
I suppose they knew this was coming and making a way to not pay up.
I’ll bet you find some interesting things cleaning up after a bunch of Deadheads.
No, she was protesting with a veterans group and the local indian tribe.
