Trump Says He Doesn't Care if Liberals Beat Conservatives in Canada

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he wouldn't mind if the Liberal Party won the upcoming Canadian election, saying: "I'd rather deal with a liberal than a conservative."

Trump has taken a tough stance toward Canada, imposing tariffs on Canadian imports and repeatedly threatening to make it the 51st U.S. state.

During an interview on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle," host Laura Ingraham pointed out that Trump's treatment of Canada could propel the ruling Liberals to win the next election and lead a government that's hostile to the U.S.

"I don't care," Trump responded. "I think it's easier to deal, actually, with a liberal and maybe they're going to win, but I don't really care. It doesn't matter to me at all."

Trump then took aim at the Liberals' main opponent, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre.

"The conservative that's running is, stupidly, no friend of mine. I don't know him, but he said negative things," he said. "When he says negative things, I couldn't care less."

The Liberals, who have been in power since Justin Trudeau was elected prime minister in 2015, just weeks ago looked headed toward certain defeat to the Conservatives in an election that must be held by October 20 and may happen earlier.

But the party is mounting a major comeback after replacing Trudeau with former central banker Mark Carney. Several recent opinion polls have shown the Liberals closing the gap or even ahead of the Conservatives.

That’s pretty dumb. Poilievre would be far superior to Trudeau and his ilk. Certainly better for the Canadian people.

That’s what he said. I took it to mean that with a liberal you know the oppose you. A conservative would stab you in the back.

President Trump doesn’t seem to care who the governor of Canada is right now. Once he annexes Canada though, he might have to choose the next state governor himself.

Agreed. But if Trump wants Pierre to win, he said the exact right thing. 😀

Maybe he’s trying to get them to vote conservative by making them think they are sticking it to him by doing so.

Trump would surely not help Conservatives, if he expressed his endorsement.

The Libbies would be stupid enough to implement draconian laws that would induce Alberta and Saskatchewan to secede.

Trump can be so stubborn and stupid sometimes. He should be trying to sabotage Carney, who is a WEF plant, and will turn Canada into an ally of China...possibly to the point of purchasing weapons, harboring troops and entering into trade and MILITARY agreements.

But some at FR bury our faces in Trump ass so much that we fail to see what's going on everywhere else.

Ok people. Trump’s saying Pierre is not one of us. We all thought he was. So what are we gonna do?

Smart for Trump to say that, he knows that being linked to Trump doesn’t help Poilievre in the election, given the current mood.

As long as Poilievre does what he thinks is best for Canada and not the WEF, then he’s good, even if it means that he and Trump won’t see eye-to-eye.

Carney will try to trade more with Europe and the EU. It won't work because they're protectionist. Canada is not going to have the same kind of access they had in America. Carney may be delusional enough or he's willing to sacrifice Canada's economy so they will escape from our orbit.

Good grief. Having Canada as a state is so dumb. We’d never get another republican president.

Would he be?

He’s already been as defensive as Castro and Carnage when it came to Trump’s “fifty-first state” tongue-in-cheek comment, and he was completely silent when Chrystia Freeland came out and essentially threatened to fire nukes at the USA. A Red Tory would be far less candid than a Liberal as to true intentions.

Would that be true if as a consequence, all of their election fraud there gets exposed and halted?
