Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who has been the target of scathing criticism from members of his own party after voting for a Republican-drafted stopgap spending bill that cut many nondefense programs, says things are looking good for the Democratic Party, which he says has “a real direction now.”
Schumer told The New York Times that President Trump’s agenda of slashing the federal government to pave the way for trillions of dollars in tax cuts has underscored the Democratic Party’s identity as the party of workers, even though some Democrats fear that’s no longer seen as true.
“I don’t think we have an authenticity problem,” Schumer told the Times’s Lulu Garcia-Navarro.
“We have a real direction now. I feel good about it,” the embattled leader proclaimed.
“First, you gotta look at who the Democratic Party is and who the Republican Party is,” he argued. “We are the party of working people. We feel that very, very strongly. That’s who we have always been.”
Some progressives, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), however, have warned the Democratic Party has drifted away from working-class Americans, citing that shift as why the party lost the White House and Senate in the 2024 election.......
“We lost it,” he said. “We always cared about the working people. But in the last few years, while we did a lot for working people, here’s what we didn’t do: We didn’t tell people about it.
“We thought, just by legislating, people would know about it. They don’t!” he said, summing up what he sees as one of the party’s biggest mistakes while former President Biden was in office.

The average person didn’t really care about that.
The average republican did but not enough people cared to sway an election.
Illegals raping and killing and society trying to make up “genders” is profoundlly disturbing and it’s easy to see how it affects the lives of everyone in the country, possibly.
A fat work staff in the fed gov...few knew how many.
I didn’t. I didn’t eveen consider it a voting issue until I found out when they went to slash the useless work force.
but NOW that people know, it’s an issue.
I thought there were maybe 250,000 federal employees..and wondered why so many :)
I was off by about 1.75 million
He thinks it's just Messaging. The Democrats think they are doing all the right things, they just need to be louder about it.
And no idea how many “contractors” the US government has hired outside of civil service; STILL paid BY tax dollars, NONE of them actually paying any taxes.
“We are the party of working people”. So that’s why so many of them want the government to feed and house them, and why they want all the jobs to go to China.
They didn’t legislate anything for the working class i.e. middle Americans. The only thing they cared about was legislation for anything to do with gender identity policies, DEI and woke crap which was pushed on folks in the mass majority that didn’t and don’t give a shxt.
A do nothing congress except for “necessary only” funding bills is far better for the American people.
thats good news
still stuck on
“its the messaging not the policies”
even though their policies are not popular
It is as if Schumer and his ilk are genetically predisposed to lie.
As per usual, Schumer is employing the Big Lie Strategy. Assert something is true when it glaringly isn’t and repeat loudly and often. It’s incredible that a lightning bolt hasn’t hit him yet.

He’s right. They have real direction in replacing him with crazy Sandy Cortez.
The jerk in wingtips who went to Hah-vahd and never did a manual labor job in his life is the Leader of the Working Class?
Archie Bunker sniggers in his chair.
good gosh, Schumer is falling back on the ol’ “our messaging wasn’t good enough” messaging, that is, “no one is believing our lies anymore” ...
examples: “Schumer told The New York Times that President Trump’s agenda of slashing the federal government to pave the way for trillions of dollars in tax cuts has underscored the Democratic Party’s identity as the party of workers” ...
“He acknowledged that his message that Republicans want to cut health care and other social services to pay for tax cuts for billionaires isn’t new, but he asserted that it drifted from Democrats’ focus and wasn’t emphasized as much as it should have been. “
those are all lies, and yes, chuck, no one is believing them any longer ... there are only so many ways to lie about what folks can actually see with their own eyes, and ya’ll have used them all up ...
still, i’m gathering from the article, that the Big Lie that will be pushed for a few days by the Dems and their allies, the propaganda media, is that “we’re the working people’s party” ... but here’s the thing, chuck, if ya’ll were REALLY the working people’s party, you wouldn’t have to make that your “message”: working people would KNOW if their lives were better as a result of Dem policies ... but your ACTUAL policies HURT the working people and they know it ...
working people know that Dems are the party of America Last, the party of the criminal, the party of the foreign invader, the party of inflation, the party of high taxes, the party of waste and fraud, the part dead set on destroying those who oppose those policies ...
there’s simply no disguising those facts anymore, chuck, because the truth is leaking out around the edges on the Interwebs because ya’ll don’t control 100% of the propaganda media like ya’ll did prior to the advent of the Interwebs ...
Great quote / post. Thanks. Honorable men have died on foreign battlefields for these crooks. FU Chuck Schumer - D espicable
Minnesota Democrats (Governor Walz) showed they are the party of the working people. They changed a $18 billion surplus into a $6 billion deficit while raising government spending 40% off the back of the working people. Sorry Schumer, your party’s high taxing and high spending won’t fool anyone.
The democrat party has zero self awareness.
Then Schumer and other Democrats, WHY are you so upset when Trump does things to help the working people? Huh?
