French PM Says Europe Should Prepare for Trade War with US

At the same time, the prime minister expressed the view that Europe and the US still have the opportunity to resolve the situation through negotiations

PARIS, March 16. /TASS/. French Prime Minister François Bayrou believes that Europe must prepare for a potential trade war with the United States.

"We need to seriously prepare not only to respond to military threats but also to a trade war. The introduction of customs duties threatens both our products and American ones," Bayrou stated on the France Info TV channel.

At the same time, the prime minister expressed the view that Europe and the US still have the opportunity to resolve the situation through negotiations. "There have been statements, including a message from [US President Donald] Trump, but no final solution has been reached yet," Bayrou noted. "A trade war is the last resort."

Earlier, Bayrou remarked that an increase in US duties on European wines and other alcoholic products from the EU would pose a significant threat to the global economy.

On March 13, Trump stated on Truth Social that Washington could impose duties of 200% on EU alcoholic beverages, including wine, if the EU did not lift its tariffs on US whiskey.

We buy a lot more stuff from them than they do from us.

Prepare? They’ve been waging a trade war on us for decades. Trump has decided that we should treat it as such.

Yeah the only people that lose are Americans who’d rather let ridiculous leftist policies keep manufacturing in the US at insanely high costs and pay for cheaper stuff from overseas.

An almost completely service oriented economy is a dangerous one.

Bring jobs back.

Fortunately, I don't buy anything made in France.

We make crap like Cheetos, while they make real stuff we want.

Just compare the treatment of American wine and liquor exports to France vs French wine and liquor exports to the US.

Then go down the list of things the US exports to France and compare it to the same items France exports to the US.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that French tariffs are higher than ours.

The Frech PM needs to address the Islamic takeover of his own country. America is not the enemy he makes it out to be.

Most Americans can live without French champagne and perfume.

Right. So it wouldn't be in their interest to retaliate. Who will buy their goods?
